Human biological well being is a concern of physical anthropology. Genetic determinants and also sociocultural factors, which operate through biological bases, affect human biological quality. Several populations from different parts of the globe have been identified where varieties of detrimental genes occur in considerable numbers influencing health and some other related biological aspects of human life. Injustice will be done to those populations if necessary measures are not undertaken to improve their biological qualities. Peace cannot prevail in an atmosphere where people are deprived of the basic amenities for survival and maintenance of good health.  相似文献

Massive pyrite was shown to produce soluble iron, hydrogen, and sulfate ions on exposure to air and water. The rate of this process was directly proportional to the surface area of the mineral; it was unaffected by a drop in the pH and the presence of the ferrous and sulfate ions formed. Cupic ion had no effect but ferric ion accelerated pyrite degradation until all the ferric ion was consumed, in accordance with FeS2 + 2Fe3+ —>‐3Fe2+ + 2S°. Thiobacillus ferrooxidans increased pyrite degradation considerably; the presence of Thiobacillus thiooxidans had no influence on pyrite degradation.  相似文献

Phanerochaete chrysosporium produces intracellular soluble and particulate beta-glucosidases and an extracellular beta-glucosidase. The extracellular enzyme is induced by cellulose but repressed in the presence of glucose. The molecular weight of this enzyme is 90,000. The K(m) for p-nitrophenyl-beta-glucoside is 1.6 x 10 M; the K(i) for glucose, a competitive inhibitor, is 5.0 x 10 M. The K(m) for cellobiose is 5.3 x 10 M. The intracellular soluble enzyme is induced by cellobiose; this induction is prevented by cycloheximide. The presence of 300 mM glucose in the medium, however, had no effect on induction. The K(m) for p-nitrophenyl-beta-glucoside is 1.1 x 10 M. The molecular weight of this enzyme is approximately 410,000. Both enzymes have an optimal temperature of 45 degrees C and an E(act) of 9.15 kcal (ca. 3.83 x 10 J). The pH optima, however, were approximately 7.0 and 5.5 for the intracellular and extracellular enzymes, respectively.  相似文献

PurposeTo investigate the associations of time spent sedentary, in moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) and physical activity energy expenditure (PAEE) with physical capability measures at age 60-64 years.MethodsTime spent sedentary and in MVPA and, PAEE were assessed using individually calibrated combined heart rate and movement sensing among 1727 participants from the MRC National Survey of Health and Development in England, Scotland and Wales as part of a detailed clinical assessment undertaken in 2006-2010. Multivariable linear regression models were used to examine the cross-sectional associations between standardised measures of each of these behavioural variables with grip strength, chair rise and timed up-&-go (TUG) speed and standing balance time.ResultsGreater time spent in MVPA was associated with higher levels of physical capability; adjusted mean differences in each capability measure per 1standard deviation increase in MVPA time were: grip strength (0.477 kg, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.015 to 0.939), chair rise speed (0.429 stands/min, 95% CI: 0.093 to 0.764), standing balance time (0.028 s, 95% CI: 0.003 to 0.053) and TUG speed (0.019 m/s, 95% CI: 0.011 to 0.026). In contrast, time spent sedentary was associated with lower grip strength (-0.540 kg, 95% CI: -1.013 to -0.066) and TUG speed (-0.011 m/s, 95% CI: -0.019 to -0.004). Associations for PAEE were similar to those for MVPA.ConclusionHigher levels of MVPA and overall physical activity (PAEE) are associated with greater levels of physical capability whereas time spent sedentary is associated with lower levels of capability. Future intervention studies in older adults should focus on both the promotion of physical activity and reduction in time spent sedentary.  相似文献
