A study of the ammonite assemblages from the “Oolithe ferrugineuse de Bayeux” Formation of Bajocian age is presented herein. The section at the locality of Maizet shows a high level of stratigraphic condensation, and taphonomic reworking is common within the sequence. All the ammonites being studied are classified herein as having been reworked, transported or displaced on the sea-floor prior to burial, and as such, are determined taphonomically as being resedimented or reelaborated fossil elements. Seven evidences of reelaboration within the sequence under investigation are detailed here. The palaeontological units, so-called taphorecords, characterized by distinctive taphonomic features, are used to directly or indirectly assign beds to biochronostratigraphic units. In addition, identification of taphorecord relationships regarding successive or contemporaneous deposition allows their registratic succession and order of depositional events to be inferred. The latter may be deduced on the basis of bed succession or by reference to stratigraphical intervals that now are only represented in the stratigraphic column by fossils. Deposition by tractional currents and winnowing is indicated by sharp bed-base and by reworked fossil elements. Biochronostratigraphic correlation with other sections of the inland Bajocian successions in the Calvados area (Bretteville, Feuguerolles) highlights a common depositional evolution that may be related to an eastward-deepening carbonate ramp.  相似文献

Our understanding of early metriorhynchid evolution, the highly specialised pelagic clade of Mesozoic crocodylomorphs, is hampered by the paucity of basal metriorhynchoids and how poorly preserved most of these fossils are. This means the transition from a ‘gharial-like’ body-plan to a ‘pseudo-dolphin-like’ one, which characterises metriorhynchoid evolution, is still poorly understood. Herein the Middle Jurassic taxon Teleidosaurus calvadosii (J.A. Eudes-Deslongchamps, 1866) is re-evaluated. The holotype of T. calvadosii was destroyed during World War Two, as were all referred specimens. All that survived are plaster casts of the holotype. However, a recently discovered specimen from the middle Bathonian of Ecouché, Normandy, France is herein referred to T. calvadosii. This specimen preserves the antorbital region, an incomplete mandible and one cervical vertebra. This specimen is designated as neotype of T. calvadosii. The new specimen allows to re-evaluate the anatomy of T. calvadosii, in particular the antorbital fenestra, which has been misunderstood. Moreover, a comparison is made between the French Middle Jurassic metriorhynchoids Teleidosaurus and Eoneustes. Both genera appear as valid and E. bathonicus is considered to be a nomen dubium.  相似文献

Two associated incomplete thyreophoran dorsal vertebrae from the Callovian Marnes de Dives Formation of the Vaches Noires cliffs, on the Normandy coast, are referred to an indeterminate stegosaur that appears to be different from Lexovisaurus, previously reported from the Callovian of western France. These vertebrae are the first evidence of thyreophorans from the Vaches Noires and complement the dinosaur assemblage from this locality, which hitherto consisted of several theropod taxa and an indeterminate sauropod. The dinosaur record from the Vaches Noires is heavily dominated by theropods and this imbalance is difficult to explain. A possible explanation may be that the dinosaur sample from the Vaches Noires is too small to be statistically significant and representative of the original faunal assemblage from which it is derived.  相似文献

In the present paper, we describe and figure some rare lower Aptian (Lower Cretaceous) helical ammonoids from the Deshayesites deshayesi Zone of the Argiles à Plicatules Formation (Paris Basin, NE France). Those are the only helical ammonoids known in this zone so far. They were only occasionally evoked in literature and this is probably on the basis of the specimens here described that, according to us, the genus Toxoceratoides (Helicancylidae) was wrongly regarded as possessing an early helical spiral part. We demonstrate here that these specimens are not belonging to Toxoceratoides nor Helicancylidae: they are interpreted as ‘abnormally’ helical representatives of the genus Ancyloceras (Ancyloceratidae) or a new taxon of Ancyloceratidae.  相似文献
