The effects of two glycosylated whey hydrolysates (GWH-Gal A and GWH-Gal B) on glutathione (GSH) and related antioxidant enzymes in SGC-7901 cells were evaluated. Two whey glycosylated hydrolysates promoted an increase in reduced glutathione (GSH) in normal SGC-7901 cells. GSH, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), γ-glutamine cysteine synthetaase (γ-GCS), and catalase (CAT) at 1.0 and 2.0 mg/mL in normal SGC-7901 cells were higher in the GWH-Gal A group than in the GWH-Gal B group (P < 0.05). Compared with GWH-Gal B, GWH-Gal A more strongly inhibited decreases in intracellular GSH, GPx, γ-GCS, CAT, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) in H2O2-induced SGC-7901 cells. Compared with GWH-Gal B, GWH-Gal A at 1.0 and 2.0 mg/mL effectively inhibited increases in lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in H2O2-induced SGC-7901 cells (P < 0.05). Therefore, GSH content and related antioxidant enzyme activity levels (GPx, γ-GCS, CAT, SOD) in both normal and H2O2-induced SGC-7901 cells were considerably stronger in the GWH-Gal A group than in the GWH-Gal B group.  相似文献

The aim of present study is to investigate whether Ferulic acid (FA), a natural polyphenol antioxidant, was able to protect ARPE‑19 cells from hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)‑induced damage, and elucidate the underlying mechanisms. Our results revealed that FA pre‐treatment for 24 hours can reverse cell loss of H2O2‐induced ARPE‐19 cells via the promotion of cell proliferation and prevention of apoptosis, as evidenced by 5‐ethynyl‐2′‐deoxyuridine (EdU) incorporation and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase‐mediated dUTP nick end‐labelling (TUNEL) assay, respectively. Moreover, the addition of FA (5 mM) can decrease Bax and cleaved caspase‐3 protein expression, but increase Bcl‐2 protein expression in ARPE‐19 cells. Furthermore, H2O2‐induced oxidative stress in ARPE‐19 cells was significantly alleviated by FA, illustrated by reduced levels of ROS and MDA. In addition, the attenuated antioxidant enzymes activities of (SOD, CAT and GPX) and GSH level were reversed almost to the normal base level by the pre‐addition of FA for 24 hours. In all assays, FA itself did not exert any effect on the change of the above parameters. These novel findings indicated that FA effectively protected human ARPE‐19 cells from H2O2‐induced oxidative damage through its pro‐proliferation, anti‐apoptosis and antioxidant activity, suggesting that FA has a therapeutic potential in the prevention and treatment of AMD.  相似文献

Neuroglia interactions are essential for the nervous system and in the retina Müller cells interact with most of the neurons in a symbiotic manner. Glutathione (GSH) is a low-molecular weight compound that undertakes major antioxidant roles in neurons and glia, however, whether this compound could act as a signaling molecule in neurons and/or glia is currently unknown. Here we used embryonic avian retina to obtain mixed retinal cells or purified Müller glia cells in culture to evaluate calcium shifts induced by GSH. A dose response curve (0.1–10mM) showed that 5–10mM GSH, induced calcium shifts exclusively in glial cells (later labeled and identified as 2M6 positive cells), while neurons responded to 50mM KCl (labeled as βIII tubulin positive cells). BBG 100nM, a P2X7 blocker, inhibited the effects of GSH on Müller glia. However, addition of DNQX 70μM and MK-801 20μM, non-NMDA and NMDA blockers, had no effect on GSH calcium induced shift. Oxidized glutathione (GSSG) at 5mM failed to induce calcium mobilization in glia cells, indicating that the antioxidant and/or structural features of GSH are essential to promote elevations in cytoplasmic calcium levels. Indeed, a short GSH pulse (60s) protects Müller glia from oxidative damage after 30 min of incubation with 0.1% H2O2. Finally, GSH induced GABA release from chick embryonic retina, mixed neuron-glia or from Müller cell cultures, which were inhibited by BBG or in the absence of sodium. GSH also induced propidium iodide uptake in Müller cells in culture in a P2X7 receptor dependent manner. Our data suggest that GSH, in addition to antioxidant effects, could act signaling calcium shifts at the millimolar range particularly in Müller glia, and could regulate the release of GABA, with additional protective effects on retinal neuron-glial circuit.  相似文献

An analysis of the components of the antioxidant defence system in exponential and stationary growth phases of filamentous fungus Phycomyces blakesleeanus and the response to the oxidative stress hydrogen peroxide were performed. There is a strong positive correlation between mycelial antioxidant capacity and the contents of gallic acid, d-erythroascorbate (d-EAA) or d-erythroascorbate monoglucoside (d-EAAG). These secondary metabolites are specifically synthesized by this fungus and reach maximal values in the stationary growth phase, suggesting that they can play some role in the antioxidant defence system of this fungus. There is a differential expression of the two more notable antioxidant activities, catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD), depending of the growth stage of P. blakesleeanus, CAT being expressed in the exponential and SOD in the stationary phase. Phycomyces blakesleeanus showed a high resistance to the oxidative stress caused by H2O2 (50 and 200 mM) which was higher in exponential phase. This higher resistance can be explained by the presence of CAT, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and the probable contribution of glutathione-S-transferase (GST) and high levels of reduced form of glutathione (GSH). The transition to stationary phase was accompanied with a higher physiological oxidative damage illustrated by the higher protein carbonylation. In this growth stage the resistance of the fungus to the oxidative stress caused by H2O2 could be explained by the presence of SOD, GPx, and the probable contribution of GST as well as of secondary metabolites, mainly d-EAA and d-EAAG. These results highlight a specific response to oxidative stress by H2O2 depending on the growth phase of P. blakesleeanus.  相似文献

We investigated the efficacy of Pistacia lentiscus fruit oil (PLFO) for protecting human skin from damage due to oxidative stress. PLFO contains natural antioxidants including polyphenols, sterols and tocopherols. We compared the antioxidant potential of PLFO with extra virgin olive oil (EVOO). Explants of healthy adult human skin were grown in culture with either PLFO or EVOO before adding hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). We also used cultured skin explants to investigate the effects of PLFO on lipid oxidation and depletion of endogenous antioxidant defense enzymes including glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) one day after 2 h exposure to H2O2. We found that PLFO scavenged radicals and protected skin against oxidative injury. PLFO exhibited greater antioxidant and free radical scavenging activity than EVOO. Skin explants treated with PLFO inhibited H2O2 induced MDA formation by inhibition of lipid oxidation. In addition, the oil inhibited H2O2 induced depletion of antioxidant defense enzymes including GPx, SOD and CAT. We found that treatment with PLFO repaired skin damage owing to its antioxidant properties.  相似文献

To investigate the impact of acute heat exposure on maintenance of redox homeostasis and antioxidant balance related to aging, we have determined the GSH levels in the liver and kidney, and the activity of antioxidant enzymes in the same organs from Wistar rats at two different ages, 35 days and 18 months. The animals were housed individually in a special heated chamber maintaining a constant temperature of 40±0.5 °C. The results showed that the level of endogenous GSH was signi?cantly lower in aged than in young animals. In general, the activity of antioxidant enzymes in investigated tissues displayed an age-dependent decline. Indeed, we found unchanged CAT activity and decreased GPx activity with age. On the other hand acute heat exposure led to disproportion between peroxide metabolizing enzymes (CAT, GPx) and GR, thus promoting H2O2 accumulation and prooxidative state in the liver of young animals. The results for the impact of l-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylate in combined stress model suggested that in spite of restore levels of GSH, the restoration of oxido-reductive balance might have only been partial due to irreversible alterations in antioxidant enzymes set by acute heat exposure and aging. Interestingly, young animals appeared to be more sensitive to the supplementation of the l-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylate, likely because of the more extensive increase of GSH observed in young l-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylate treated animals.  相似文献

Mangosteen extracts (ME) contain high levels of polyphenolic compounds and antioxidant activity. Protective effects of ME against β-amyloid peptide (Aβ), induced cytotoxicity have been reported. Here, we further studied the protective effects of ME against oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and demonstrated the protection against memory impairment in mice. The cytoprotective effects of ME were measured as cell viability and the reduction in ROS activity. In SK-N-SH cell cultures, 200 μg/ml ME could partially antagonize the effects of 150 or 300 µM H2O2 on cell viability, ROS level and caspase-3 activity. At 200, 400 or 800 µg/ml, ME reduced AChE activity of SK-N-SH cells to about 60% of the control. In vivo study, Morris water maze and passive avoidance tests were used to assess the memory of the animals. ME, especially at 100 mg/kg body weight, could improve the animal’s memory and also antagonize the effect of scopolamine on memory. The increase in ROS level and caspase-3 activity in the brain of scopolamine-treated mice were antagonized by the ME treatment. The study demonstrated cytoprotective effects of ME against H2O2 and PCB-52 toxicity and having AChE inhibitory effect in cell culture. ME treatment in mice could attenuate scopolamine-induced memory deficit and oxidative stress in brain.  相似文献

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) not only is an oxidant but also is an important signaling molecule in vascular biology, mediating several physiological functions. Red blood cells (RBCs) have been proposed to be the primary sink of H2O2 in the vasculature because they are the main cellular component of blood with a robust antioxidant defense and a high membrane permeability. However, the exact permeability of human RBC to H2O2 is neither known nor is it known if the mechanism of permeation involves the lipid fraction or protein channels. To gain insight into the permeability process, we measured the partition constant of H2O2 between water and octanol or hexadecane using a novel double-partition method. Our results indicated that there is a large thermodynamic barrier to H2O2 permeation. The permeability coefficient of H2O2 through phospholipid membranes containing cholesterol with saturated or unsaturated acyl chains was determined to be 4 × 10−4 and 5 × 10−3 cm s−1, respectively, at 37 °C. The permeability coefficient of human RBC membranes to H2O2 at 37 °C, on the other hand, was 1.6 × 10−3 cm s−1. Different aquaporin-1 and aquaporin-3 inhibitors proved to have no effect on the permeation of H2O2. Moreover, human RBCs devoid of either aquaporin-1 or aquaporin-3 were equally permeable to H2O2 as normal human RBCs. Therefore, these results indicate that H2O2 does not diffuse into RBCs through aquaporins but rather through the lipid fraction or a still unidentified membrane protein.  相似文献

To investigate physiological and biochemical changes of thrips-resistant alfalfa (Medicago sativa L. cv. Gan-nong No. 9), we aimed at clarifying the response mechanisms of alfalfa against thrips. Medicago sativa L. cv. including thrips-resistant Gan-nong No.9 (G9), thrips-susceptible Gan-nong No.3 (G3) and highly thrips-susceptible WL363HQ (363) were infested with different thrips densities (3, 5, 7 and 9-thrips per branch). The quantitative change in specific nutrients, secondary metabolites, defensive and antioxidant enzymes were measured at seedling stage of the three alfalfa cultivars. The results showed that with the increase of thrips densities, the damage indices, SS, Pro, flavonoids, tannin and H2O2 in G9, G3 and 363 were significantly increased, but PPO and SOD significantly reduced, compared with CK. Furthermore, the tannin and lignin contents of G9 were significantly higher compared to 363, but SP content was significantly lower than G3 and H2O2 content which was further significantly less compared to 363. Correlation analysis observed that the damage index of the three alfalfa cultivars showed a significant positive association with SS, Pro, flavone, tannin, and H2O2 (P < 0.01), while damage index and DW, Chl (a, b, a + b), PPO and SOD showed a significant negative correlation (P < 0.01). Based on principal component comprehensive evaluation, the 5-thrips adults per branch were the critical inoculation threshold for G9 against thrips injury because the score was – 0.048. These results revealed that thrips damage significantly increased the contents of SS, Pro, flavonoids, tannins and H2O2, as well as significantly declined the activities of PPO and SOD in the three cultivars (P < 0.05), moreover, thrips-resistant G9 markedly accumulated lignin content, POD and CAT activity, inhibited Chl (a + b, b) and SP biosynthesis to resist thrips damage.  相似文献

Objectives

We aimed to investigate the protective effect of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides (LBPs) against oxidative stress–induced apoptosis and senescence in human lens epithelial cells.

Methods

To study apoptosis, SRA01/04 cells, a human lens epithelial cell lines, were exposed to 200 µM hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) for 24 h with or without pretreatment with LBPs. Cell viability was measured using a Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. Cell apoptosis, intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), and the loss of mitochondria membrane potential (Δψm) were detected by flow cytometric analyses. Expression levels of Bcl-2 and Bax proteins were measured by western blot analysis. The levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione (GSH) were quantized using commercial enzymatic kits according to the manufacturer''s instructions. To study senescence, SRA01/04 cells were pre-incubated with LBPs and all cells were then exposed to 100 µM H2O2 for 96 h. Cellular senescence was assessed by morphologic examination and senescence-associated β-galactosidase (SA-β-gal) staining.

Results

LBPs significantly reduced H2O2-induced cell apoptosis, the generation of ROS, the loss of Δψm, and the levels of MDA. LBPs also inhibited H2O2-induced downregulated Bcl-2 and upregulated Bax proteins and increased the levels of SOD and GSH enzyme activity. Moreover, LBPs significantly attenuated H2O2-induced cellular senescence.

Conclusions

These findings suggested that LBPs protect human lens epithelial cells from H2O2-induced apoptosis by modulating the generation of ROS, loss of Δψm, Bcl-2 family, and antioxidant enzyme activity and attenuating cellular senescence.  相似文献

Background

Based on the ethnomedicinal uses and the effective outcomes of natural products in various diseases, this study was designed to evaluate Isodon rugosus as possible remedy in oxidative stress, alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. Acetylecholinestrase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitory activities of crude methanolic extract (Ir.Cr), resultant fractions (n-hexane (Ir.Hex), chloroform (Ir.Cf), ethyl acetate (Ir.EtAc), aqueous (Ir.Aq)), flavonoids (Ir.Flv) and crude saponins (Ir.Sp) of I. rugosus were investigated using Ellman’s spectrophotometric method. Antioxidant potential of I. rugosus was determined using DPPH, H2O2 and ABTS free radicals scavenging assays. Total phenolic and flavonoids contents of plant extracts were determined and expressed in mg GAE/g dry weight and mg RTE/g of dry sample respectively.

Results

Among different fractions Ir.Flv and Ir.Cf exhibited highest inhibitory activity against AChE (87.44 ± 0.51, 83.73 ± 0.64%) and BChE (82.53 ± 0.71, 88.55 ± 0.77%) enzymes at 1 mg/ml with IC50 values of 45, 50 for AChE and 40, 70 μg/ml for BChE respectively. Activity of these fractions were comparable to galanthamine causing 96.00 ± 0.30 and 88.61 ± 0.43% inhibition of AChE and BChE at 1 mg/ml concentration with IC50 values of 20 and 47 μg/ml respectively. In antioxidant assays, Ir.Flv, Ir.Cf, and Ir.EtAc demonstrated highest radicals scavenging activities in DPPH and H2O2 assays which were comparable to ascorbic acid. Ir.Flv was found most potent with IC50 of 19 and 24 μg/ml against DPPH and H2O2 radicals respectively. Whereas antioxidant activates of plant samples against ABTS free radicals was moderate. Ir.Cf, Ir.EtAc and Ir.Cr showed high phenolic and flavonoid contents and concentrations of these compounds in different fractions correlated well to their antioxidant and anticholinestrase activities.

Conclusion

It may be inferred from the current investigations that the Ir.Sp, Ir.Flv and various fractions of I. rugosus are good sources of anticholinesterase and antioxidant compounds. Different fractions can be subjected to activity guided isolation of bioactive compounds effective in neurological disorders.  相似文献

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), an active oxygen species, is widely generated in many biological systems and mediates various physiological and biochemical processes in plants. In this study, we demonstrated that exogenous H2O2 was able to improve the tolerance of wheat seedlings to salt stress. Treatments with exogenous H2O2 for 2 days significantly enhanced salt stress tolerance in wheat seedlings by decreasing the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA), the production rate of superoxide radical (O2 ), and increasing the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and the concentration of glutathione (GSH) and carotenoids (CAR). To further clarify the role of H2O2 in preventing salt stress damage, CAT and ascorbate (AsA), the specific H2O2 scavengers, were used. The promoting effect of exogenous H2O2 on salt stress could be reversed by the addition of CAT and AsA. It was suggested that exogenous H2O2 induced changes in MDA, O2 , antioxidant enzymes and antioxidant compounds were responsible for the increase in salt stress tolerance observed in the experiments. Therefore, H2O2 may participate in antioxidant enzymes and antioxidant compounds induced tolerance of wheat seedlings to salt stress. The results also showed that exogenous H2O2 had a positive physiological effect on the growth and development of salt-stressed seedlings.  相似文献

The present work is aimed at evaluating the radioprotective effect of curcumin, a naturally occurring phenolic compound on γ-radiation induced toxicity. The cellular changes were estimated by using lipid peroxidative indices like thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), the antioxidants superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and reduced glutathione (GSH). The DNA damage was analysed by using cytokinesis blocked micronucleus assay and dicentric aberration (DC). The γ-radiation at different doses (1, 2 and 4 Gy) were found to significantly increase micronuclei (MN), DC frequencies and TBARS level whereas the levels of GSH and antioxidant enzymes were significantly decreased. The maximum damage to lymphocytes was observed at 4 Gy irradiation. Curcumin pretreatment (1, 5 and 10 μg/ml) significantly decreased the frequency of MN and DC. The levels of TBARS decreased and activities of SOD, CAT and GPx significantly increased along with GSH levels. At 1 Gy irradiation all the concentrations of curcumin (1, 5 and 10 μg/ml) significantly protected the lymphocytes from radiation damage. At 2 Gy irradiation, 5 and 10 μg/ml of curcumin showed significant radioprotection. Since the highest damage was observed at 4 Gy irradiation both 1 and 5 μg/ml of curcumin pretreatment were not sufficient to protect the lymphocytes from radiation damage but 10 μg/ml of curcumin significantly protected the cultured lymphocytes from radiation damage. Thus, pretreatment with curcumin gives protection to lymphocytes against γ-radiation induced cellular damage.  相似文献

Abstract

The antibiotic drug 4,4′-diaminodiphenylsulphone (DDS) is used to treat several dermatologic diseases, including Hansen's disease. This study confirmed the antioxidant nature of DDS in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced oxidative stress and assessed its role in other apoptotic stresses in human diploid fibroblasts (HDFs). Oxidative stress was effectively reduced by DDS in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, the oxidative stress-induced increases in the levels of the p53 and p21 proteins were inhibited by pre-treatment with DDS. In addition, H2O2 and DDS increased the level of cytochrome P450 (CYP450) IIE1 in HDFs, implicating a role for DDS in H2O2 scavenging via the activation of CYP450. DDS treatment increased the activity of catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR), as well as the GSH/GSSG ratio, indicating activation of the glutathione system against oxidative stress. However, DDS showed no protective effects on HDFs against other apoptotic stimuli, such as thapsigargin and staurosporine, suggesting that DDS would act only against oxidative stress. Therefore, in addition to its antibiotic function, DDS is a potent antioxidant against H2O2-induced oxidative stress in HDFs.  相似文献

Background/Aims

Resveratrol has been demonstrated to be protective in the cardiovascular system. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of resveratrol on hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced increase in late sodium current (I Na.L) which augmented the reverse Na+-Ca2+ exchanger current (I NCX), and the diastolic intracellular Ca2+ concentration in ventricular myocytes.

Methods

I Na.L, I NCX, L-type Ca2+ current (I Ca.L) and intracellular Ca2+ properties were determined using whole-cell patch-clamp techniques and dual-excitation fluorescence photomultiplier system (IonOptix), respectively, in rabbit ventricular myocytes.

Results

Resveratrol (10, 20, 40 and 80 µM) decreased I Na.L in myocytes both in the absence and presence of H2O2 (300 µM) in a concentration dependent manner. Ranolazine (3–9 µM) and tetrodotoxin (TTX, 4 µM), I Na.L inhibitors, decreased I Na.L in cardiomyocytes in the presence of 300 µM H2O2. H2O2 (300 µM) increased the reverse I NCX and this increase was significantly attenuated by either 20 µM resveratrol or 4 µM ranolazine or 4 µM TTX. In addition, 10 µM resveratrol and 2 µM TTX significantly depressed the increase by 150 µM H2O2 of the diastolic intracellular Ca2+ fura-2 fluorescence intensity (FFI), fura-fluorescence intensity change (△FFI), maximal velocity of intracellular Ca2+ transient rise and decay. As expected, 2 µM TTX had no effect on I Ca.L.

Conclusion

Resveratrol protects the cardiomyocytes by inhibiting the H2O2-induced augmentation of I Na.L.and may contribute to the reduction of ischemia-induced lethal arrhythmias.  相似文献

Cytoprotective effects of short-term treatment with grape seed extract (GSE) upon human gingival fibroblasts (hGFs) were evaluated in relation to its antioxidant properties and compared with those of a water-soluble analog of vitamin E: trolox (Tx). GSE and Tx showed comparable antioxidant potential in vitro against di(phenyl)-(2,4,6-trinitrophenyl)iminoazanium (DPPH; a stable radical), hydroxyl radical (OH), singlet oxygen (1O2), and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Pretreatment or concomitant treatment with GSE for 1 min protected hGFs from oxidative stressors, including H2O2, acid-electrolyzed water (AEW), and 1O2, and attenuated the intracellular formation of reactive oxygen species induced by H2O2 and AEW. Tx also reduced the H2O2- and AEW-induced intracellular formation of reactive oxygen species, but showed no cytoprotective effects on hGFs exposed to H2O2, AEW, or 1O2. These results suggest that the cytoprotective effects of GSE are likely exerted independently of its antioxidant potential.  相似文献

Glycinebetaine is one of the most competitive compounds which play an important role in salt stress in plants. In this study, the enhanced salt tolerance in soybean (Glycine max L.) by exogenous application of glycinebetaine was evaluated. To improve salt tolerance at the seedling stage, GB was applied in four different concentrations (0, 5, 25 and 50 mM) as a pre-sowing seed treatment. Salinity stress in the form of a final concentration of 150 mM sodium chloride (NaCl) over a 15 day period drastically affected the plants as indicated by increased proline, MDA and Na+ content of soybean plants. In contrast, supplementation with 50 mM GB improved growth of soybean plants under NaCl as evidenced by a decrease in proline, MDA and Na+ content of soybean plants. Further analysis showed that treatments with GB, resulted in increasing of CAT and SOD activity of soybean seedlings in salt stress. We propose that the role of GB in increasing tolerance to salinity stress in soybean may result from either its antioxidant capacity by direct scavenging of H2O2 or its role in activating CAT activity which is mandatory in scavenging H2O2.  相似文献

Amaranthus spinosus Linn. (Amaranthaceae), commonly known as “Mulluharivesoppu” in Kannada, is used in the Indian traditional system of medicine for the treatment of diabetes. The present study deals with the scientific evaluation of alpha amylase and the antioxidant potential of methanol extract of A. spinosus (MEAS). The aim of this study was to investigate in vitro alpha-amylase enzyme inhibition by CNPG3 (2-chloro-4-nitrophenol α-d-maltotrioside) and in vivo antioxidant potential of malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), catalase (CAT) and total thiols (TT) in alloxan-induced diabetic rats of a methanolic extract of A. spinosus. Blood sugar was also determined in MEAS-treated alloxan-induced diabetic rats. MEAS showed significant inhibition of alpha-amylase activity and IC50 46.02 μg/ml. Oral administration of MEAS (200 and 400 mg/kg) for 15 days showed significant reduction in the elevated blood glucose, MDA and restores GSH, CAT and TT levels as compared with a diabetic control. The present study provides evidence that the methanolic extract of A. spinosus has potent alpha amylase, anti-diabetic and antioxidant activities.  相似文献
