Background  

The modern wildherd of the tundra muskox (Ovibos moschatus) is native only to the New World (northern North America and Greenland), and its genetic diversity is notably low. However, like several other megafaunal mammals, muskoxen enjoyed a holarctic distribution during the late Pleistocene. To investigate whether collapse in range and loss of diversity might be correlated, we collected mitochondrial sequence data (hypervariable region and cytochrome b) from muskox fossil material recovered from localities in northeastern Asia and the Arctic Archipelago of northern North America, dating from late Pleistocene to late Holocene, and compared our results to existing databases for modern muskoxen.  相似文献

Insulin-like growth factors (IGF-I and IGF-II) are essential for normal uterine development and have been particularly implicated in fetal and placental growth. A family of six IGF binding proteins enhance or attenuate IGF-stimulated cell proliferation. In this study we have used in situ hybridization to map the distribution of IGFBP-6, one of the lesser known of the IGFBPs, in sections of the uterus collected from cyclic, anestrous, and ovariectomized nonpregnant ewes and from the uterus and placenta of early pregnant (13-55 days) and unilaterally pregnant ewes. In nonpregnant ewes IGFBP-6 mRNA (measured as arbitrary optical density units from autoradiographs) was abundant in the periepithelium and caruncles, with lower levels in the endometrial stroma and myometrium. In most regions IGFBP-6 mRNA showed cyclic variations with concentrations maximal around ovulation and the early luteal phase. In addition, 16 out of 25 ewes expressed IGFBP-6 mRNA in their endometrial glands between estrus and Day 2. Measurements of IGFBP-6 mRNA were high in anestrous ewes (equivalent values to ovulation) but low in ovariectomized ewes (equivalent values to mid to late luteal phase). In pregnant ewes IGFBP-6 mRNA was found in similar regions to those recorded during the cycle. In the periepithelium and caruncular stroma IGFBP-6 mRNA levels were higher during early pregnancy than in the midluteal phase. In the unilateral pregnant ewes there was no difference in IGFBP-6 mRNA measured between pregnant and nonpregnant horns. In conclusion, IGFBP-6 mRNA is differentially regulated during the estrous cycle and pregnancy and may be functionally important in modulating IGF activity in the uterus and placenta by virtue of its strong affinity and ability to regulate IGF-II mediated actions.  相似文献

Progesterone, oestradiol-17 beta and LH were measured in plasma from 6 non-pregnant, captive, female muskoxen during the 1984 and 1985 breeding seasons. Jugular blood samples were taken on an alternating 3/4-day schedule in 1984 and daily or at 4-h intervals over oestrus, via indwelling jugular cannulae, for 6 weeks in 1985. Oestrous cycle length was 19.6 +/- 0.96 (s.d.) days (n = 19) and did not vary between the first and subsequent cycles of the season. Progesterone was lowest at oestrus (less than or equal to 0.1 ng/ml), began to rise on Days 4-5, peaked on Days 10-12 (mean = 2.6 ng/ml) and returned to baseline 2-5 days before the next oestrus. A small rise in progesterone before the first cycle of the breeding season was observed on 7 of 12 occasions. Oestradiol-17 beta was significantly higher (P less than 0.001) 1-4 days before, or coincident with, oestrus. The average duration of the LH peak was 24.6 h (n = 7) and coincided with observations of behavioural oestrus. In one animal behavioural oestrus and an LH peak preceded a small progesterone rise at the beginning of the breeding season. The temporal relationship of these three hormones during the muskox oestrous cycle is very similar to that seen in domestic ruminants.  相似文献

Methods of artificial insemination (AI) for indoor breeding in the Japanese monkey and the Cynomolgus monkey were investigated. For the Japanese monkey AI was carried out in six females during the winter mating season and in six females during the summer non-mating season. During the mating season, semen was inseminated near ovulation time in natural menstrual cycles. In the mating season study, three females inseminated at the uterine cavity became pregnant. Three inseminated at the cervical canal failed to become pregnant. For the non-mating season study, ovulation was induced artificially by PMSG and hCG and AI was carried out near the induced ovulation time. In the non-mating season, no animals became pregnant. Of four Cynomolgus monkeys used, pregnancy occurred in two animals inseminated near ovulation time in natural menstrual cycles. AI occurred at the uterine cavity in one and cervical canal in the other. In both species ovulation was verified by laparoscopy. Semen was collected by penile electro-stimulation then diluted to 2.5 to 5.0×107/ml with Whitten's medium. Diluted semen of 0.2l was inseminated at the uterine cavity or cervical canal. Our results indicate the usefulness of vaginal AI as a method of artificial indoor breeding.  相似文献

In a squirrel monkey breeding colony, two distinct groups of females were observed during the breeding season, December through March. One had low and the other had high estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P) concentrations. The conception rate in females with high E2 and P values was 74%. However, only 25% of monkeys with low steroid concentrations became pregnant during the breeding season. This study showed that all mature females in a colony may not be cycling concurrently and that two serum P measurements obtained at four-day intervals may be utilized to detect noncycling monkeys during the breeding season.  相似文献

Sixty-seven muskox (Ovibos moschatus) carcasses, 53 skeletal remains and two sick muskoxen were seen during an aerial survey of the Thomsen River region, northern Banks Island, Northwest Territories, Canada in late July 1986. Complete necropsies were performed on 29 muskoxen estimated to have died within the previous 3 to 5 days. Twenty were diagnosed with acute yersiniosis due to Yersinia pseudotuberculosis serotype 1B and were in excellent body condition. A diagnosis could not be made on seven animals due to marked autolysis; however, these muskoxen also were in excellent body condition. The remaining two were aged, emaciated muskoxen. This report describes the first occurrence of yersiniosis in free-ranging muskoxen and the first documentation of large scale mortality due to this disease in a free-ranging population of wild ungulates.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate differences in the expression of mRNAs for ERalpha, ERbeta and PR in the sow uterus at different stages of the estrous cycle as well as in inseminated sows at estrus and during early pregnancy by use of solution hybridization and in relation to plasma levels of estradiol and progesterone. Uterine samples were collected at different stages of the estrous cycle and after insemination/early pregnancy. In the endometrium, the expression of ERalpha mRNA and PR mRNA was similar for cyclic and early pregnant groups. Both were highest at early diestrus/70 h after ovulation and ERalpha mRNA was lowest at late diestrus/d 19 while PR mRNA was lowest at diestrus and late diestrus/d 11 and d 19. The expression of endometrial ERbeta was constantly low during the estrous cycle but higher expression was found in inseminated/early pregnant sows at estrus and 70 h after ovulation. In the myometrium, high expression of ERalpha mRNA and PR mRNA was observed at proestrus and estrus in cyclic sows and at estrus in newly inseminated sows. Higher expression of myometrial ERbeta mRNA was found in inseminated/early pregnant sows compared with cyclic sows, although significant only at estrus. In conclusion, the expression of mRNAs for ERalpha, ERbeta and PR in the sow uterus differed between endometrium and myometrium as well as with stages of the estrous cycle and early pregnancy. In addition to plasma steroid levels, the differences between cyclic and inseminated/early pregnant sows suggest that other factors, e.g. insemination and/or the presence of embryos, influence the expression of these steroid receptor mRNAs in the sow uterus.  相似文献

The reproductive biology of Noctilio albiventris was investigated histologically in 112 females collected at the start of their synchronized breeding season during two different sampling years in the Cauca Valley of Colombia. Both ovaries were functional, but the animals were generally observed to be monovular. Embryonic development in the oviduct was found to proceed to blastocyst formation and loss of the zona pellucida. In 22 animals the discarded zona had been left behind in the oviduct upon passage of the embryo into the uterus and was still undissolved at the time of amniogenesis, the latest stage examined. The zonae which had passed into the uterus with the embryos often exhibited signs of dissolution. Most of the early blastocyts were morphologically distinctive, lacking a typical inner cell mass and being instead largely bilaminar. Degenerating ova from previous ovulations were found in the oviducts of two pregnant bats, suggesting that Noctilio may be another species in which the embryo stimulates its own escape from the oviduct. During tubal passage of the embryo the secretory cells of the oviductal ampulla and isthmus exhibited a transient engorgement with glycogen, particularly on the side ipsilateral to the new corpus luteum.  相似文献

The magnitude of variations in reproductive traits of Palaemon macrodactylus females throughout a breeding season was studied in a non-native population at Mar del Plata harbor, Argentina. Fecundity, egg size, reproductive output, weight and elemental composition of eggs, and larvae were analyzed in females collected at the beginning, in the mid point, and near the end of a reproductive season and designated as early, middle season, and late females. The highest reproductive output was observed in early females, while the highest fecundity and egg volume occurred in middle season females. Eggs and larvae showed larger body mass in early than in late females. Embryos from early females contained and consumed more carbon during development than embryos from late females, and they also used part of the available nitrogen. Differences in reproduction were observed among the three groups of females. On the one hand, late females matured early but had a poor first reproduction, with few embryos and high egg loss; however, they had longer reproductive life and an enhanced reproductive output in the following season when they became early females. On the other hand, females collected at the midpoint in the reproductive season matured later and had the highest fecundity and egg volume. In addition, larvae with different characteristics resulted from each type of female and were presumably well adapted to the conditions prevailing at the moment they hatched. The extended reproductive period and the diversity of embryos and larvae produced may favor the invading ability of the species.  相似文献

Ex situ populations of maned wolves are not viable due to low reproductive efficiency. The objective of this study was to increase knowledge regarding the reproductive physiology of maned wolves to improve captive management. Fecal samples were collected 3-5 d/wk from 12 females of various reproductive age classes (young, prime breeding and aged) and reproductive histories (conceived and raised pups, conceived but lost pups, pseudo-pregnant and unpaired). Ovarian steroids were extracted from feces and assessed by enzyme immunoassay. Concentrations of estrogen metabolites gradually increased, beginning 2-5 d before breeding, and declined to baseline on the day of lordosis and copulation. Fecal progestin metabolite concentrations increased steadily during the periovulatory period, when sexual receptivity was observed, and remained elevated during pregnancy and pseudo-pregnancy. During the luteal phase, young and prime breeding-age females excreted larger amounts of progestins than those of older age classes. Furthermore, progestin concentrations were higher during the luteal phase of pregnant versus pseudo-pregnant bitches. Profiles of fecal progestin metabolites for three singleton females were unchanged throughout the breeding season, suggesting ovulation is induced in this species. However, this finding could be confounded by age, as these females were either young or aged.  相似文献

Among wild ruminants, muskoxen have an exceptional ability to fatten, but their pregnancy rates are variable and often low. To test whether the likelihood of pregnancy in muskoxen is associated with exceptionally good body condition, we used logistic regression analysis with data from 32 pregnant and 18 nonpregnant muskoxen > or = 1.5 yr of age shot in November (1989 to 1992) on Victoria Island in Arctic Canada. We assayed their serum for insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). All fatness and mass measures were positively related to the likelihood of pregnancy (P < 0.001), with the strongest associations for estimated total fat mass (80% of outcomes predicted correctly) and kidney fat mass (77%), and weaker models for body mass. Pregnancy was less likely to occur in lactating females than in nonlactating ones (P = 0.03). Although IGF-1 concentrations were higher (P = 0.001) in nonlactating females than in lactating ones (28.7 +/- 1.7 vs. 22.5 ng/ml), no association with pregnancy was detected (P = 0.57). Fatness associated with a 50% probability of pregnancy in muskoxen (22% of ingesta-free body mass or 32 kg fat in females > 3.5 yr old) is much higher than in caribou and somewhat higher than in cattle, and this may partly account for the low calving rates often observed in this species.  相似文献

Stanniocalcin (STC) is a hormone in fish that regulates calcium levels. Mammals have two orthologs of STC with roles in calcium and phosphate metabolism and perhaps cell differentiation. In the kidney and gut, STC regulates calcium and phosphate homeostasis. In the mouse uterus, Stc1 increases in the mesometrial decidua during implantation. These studies determined the effects of pregnancy and related hormones on STC expression in the ovine uterus. In Days 10-16 cyclic and pregnant ewes, STC1 mRNA was not detected in the uterus. Intriguingly, STC1 mRNA appeared on Day 18 of pregnancy, specifically in the endometrial glands, increased from Day 18 to Day 80, and remained abundant to Day 120 of gestation. STC1 mRNA was not detected in the placenta, whereas STC2 mRNA was detected at low abundance in conceptus trophectoderm and endometrial glands during later pregnancy. Immunoreactive STC1 protein was detected predominantly in the endometrial glands after Day 16 of pregnancy and in areolae that transport uterine gland secretions across the placenta. In ovariectomized ewes, long-term progesterone therapy induced STC1 mRNA. Although interferon tau had no effect on endometrial STC1, intrauterine infusions of ovine placental lactogen (PL) increased endometrial gland STC1 mRNA abundance in progestinized ewes. These studies demonstrate that STC1 is induced by progesterone and increased by a placental hormone (PL) in endometrial glands of the ovine uterus during conceptus (embryo/fetus and extraembryonic membranes) implantation and placentation. Western blot analyses revealed the presence of a 25-kDa STC1 protein in the endometrium, uterine luminal fluid, and allantoic fluid. The data suggest that STC1 secreted by the endometrial glands is transported into the fetal circulation and allantoic fluid, where it is hypothesized to regulate growth and differentiation of the fetus and placenta, by placental areolae.  相似文献

The Norwegian muskox (Ovibos moschatus) population lives on the high mountain plateau of Dovre and originates from animals introduced from Greenland. In the late summers of 2006 and 2012, severe outbreaks of pneumonia with mortality rates of 25-30% occurred. During the 2012 epidemic high quality samples from culled sick animals were obtained for microbiological and pathological examinations. High throughput sequencing (pyrosequencing) of pneumonic lung tissue revealed high concentrations of Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae in all six animals examined by this method and Pasteurella multocida subsp. multocida in four animals, whereas no virus sequences could be identified. Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae and P. multocida multocida were also isolated by culture. Using real time PCR on lung swabs, M. ovipneumoniae was detected in all of the 19 pneumonic lungs examined. Gross pathological examination revealed heavy consolidations primarily in the cranial parts of the lungs and it also identified one case of otitis media. Histologically, lung lesions were characterized as acute to subacute mixed exudative and moderately proliferative bronchoalveolar pneumonia. Immunohistochemical (IHC) examination revealed high load of M. ovipneumoniae antigens within lung lesions, with particularly intensive staining in the neutrophils. Similar IHC finding were observed in archived lung tissue blocks from animals examined during the 2006 epidemic. An M. ovipneumoniae specific ELISA was applied on bio-banked muskox sera from stray muskoxen killed in the period 2004–2013 and sick muskoxen culled, as well as sera from wild reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus) on Dovre and muskoxen from Greenland. Serology and mycoplasma culturing was also carried out on sheep that had been on pasture in the muskox area during the outbreak in 2012. Our findings indicated separate introductions of M. ovipneumoniae infection in 2006 and 2012 from infected co-grazing sheep. Salt licks shared by the two species were a possible route of transmitting infection.  相似文献

Increasing hunting pressure in Greenland demands improved knowledge on muskox (Ovibos moschatus) biology in general, and movement and grouping behaviour in particular, to ensure their proper management. Improving the exchange of information between hunters and managers is also necessary. Muskox site fidelity and group cohesion was examined over a 16-year period using 477 earmarked individuals tagged in 1982 and 1983. Combining information from scientists and hunters, observations of live individuals were primarily made from 1983 to 1990, while the latest tagged muskoxen reported shot were from 1998. Muskoxen in this area had a very loose group structure, with mother-young pairs as the only apparent bond between individuals. Furthermore, the tagged muskoxen lacked strong fidelity to the site where they were tagged and roamed within an 11,000-km2 area. Hunters reported tagged muskoxen shot up to 120 km away from the capture site. From the hunters reports, we determined that the central part of Jameson Land around Mikael Bjerg was the preferred hunting area in winter. In summer, most muskoxen were shot near the coast of the central part of Jameson Land. The hunter compliance in this study confirms that such cooperation can provide important information for management related to muskox harvesting and monitoring.  相似文献

Knowledge of the basic reproductive physiology of snow leopards is required urgently in order to develop a suitable management conditions under captivity. In this study, the long-term monitoring of concentrations of three steroid hormones in fecal matter of three female snow leopards was performed using enzyme immunoassays: (1) estradiol-17β, (2) progesterone and (3) cortisol metabolite. Two of the female animals were housed with a male during the winter breeding season, and copulated around the day the estradiol-17β metabolite peaked subsequently becoming pregnant. The other female was treated in two different ways: (1) first housed with a male in all year round and then (2) in the winter season only. She did not mate with him on the first occasion, but did so latter around when estradiol-17β metabolite peaked, and became pseudopregnant. During pregnancy, progesterone metabolite concentrations increased for 92 or 94 days, with this period being approximately twice as long as in the pseudopregnant case (31, 42, 49 and 53 days). The levels of cortisol metabolite in the pseudopregnant female (1.35 μg/g) were significantly higher than in the pregnant females (0.33 and 0.24 μg/g) (P<0.05). Similarly, during the breeding season, the levels of estradiol-17β metabolite in the pseudopregnant female (2.18 μg/g) were significantly higher than those in the pregnant females (0.81 and 0.85 μg/g) (P<0.05). Unlike cortisol the average levels of estradiol-17β during the breeding season were independent of reproductive success.The hormone levels may also be related to housing conditions and the resulting reproductive success in female leopards. The female housed with a male during the non-breeding season had high levels of cortisol metabolites and low levels of estradiol-17β in the breeding season, and failed to become pregnant. This indicates that housing conditions in snow leopards may be an important factor for normal endocrine secretion and resulting breeding success.  相似文献

During implantation, matrix metalloproteinases are believed to play roles in the tissue remodelling that accompanies decidualization in the endometrium and in embryo invasion. The objective of this study was to characterize further the expression of matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 in the mouse uterus during early pregnancy and oil-induced decidualization. mRNA encoding matrix metalloproteinase 2 was detected in pregnant uteri and uteri undergoing oil-induced decidualization by northern blot analyses. The steady-state concentrations of mRNA encoding matrix metalloproteinase 2 did not change significantly in implantation compared with inter-implantation areas on days 5-8 of pregnancy but were significantly lower in stimulated compared with non-stimulated uterine horns during artificially induced decidualization. mRNA encoding matrix metalloproteinase 9 was also detected in uteri undergoing oil-induced decidualization but not in pregnant uteri. Its concentration was significantly greater in uterine horns undergoing oil-induced decidualization compared with control horns. Immunoreactive matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 were detected in the uterus during early pregnancy and oil-induced decidualization by immunohistochemistry, localized to the endometrial stroma, but the staining progressively became weaker and was absent in areas that had undergone decidualization. By day 8 of pregnancy and 72 h after the induction of decidualization, matrix metalloproteinase 2 and 9 proteins remained mainly in the region of non-decidualized stromal cells adjacent to the myometrium. In implantation segments, they were also localized to the region of the trophoblast giant cells. The second objective of the present study was to determine whether endometrial stromal cells isolated from uteri sensitized for decidualization express matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9. Northern blot analyses and gelatin zymography showed that these cultured cells expressed matrix metalloproteinase 2 and 9, and that transforming growth factor beta1 significantly increased matrix metalloproteinase 9 expression. The results of the present study further characterize matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 expression in the uterus during implantation and artificially induced decidualization.  相似文献

Uterine function was assessed histologically in Carollia spp. removed from a laboratory breeding colony. The uteri of periovulatory bats examined on days 1-3 post coitum varied considerably depending upon whether regressing corpora lutea were present. In females lacking such corpora lutea, the endometrium was shallow and proliferative. In most of the bats having regressing corpora lutea, the endometrium was thicker and necrotic portions of the superficial lamina functionalis were being sloughed off with associated bleeding (i.e. in the form of a true menstrual process). The presence of regressing corpora lutea and well-developed endometria in these animals indicated that short-tailed fruit bats are spontaneous ovulators with a functional luteal phase to their cycles. Menstruation was also observed in some females that were not periovulatory, or that lacked regressing corpora lutea. The endometrium was not vascularized by spiral arterioles, but it did contain distinctive granulocytes similar to those observed in catarrhine primates and other menstruating bats. Most endometrial growth occurred after ovulation and, in pregnant animals, was associated with retention of the embryos in the oviducts for approximately 13-16 days. Carollia perspicillata normally produces one young at a time, after a gestation period of about 4 months, and is a seasonal breeder in the wild. Menstruation probably provides this bat with an efficient mechanism for eliminating a well-developed endometrium from its simplex uterus in the event of fertilization failure or early embryonic loss. This may give the female another chance to establish a pregnancy and produce an infant at a reasonably opportune time during the same breeding season.  相似文献

Synopsis In this study, we used pumpkinseed,Lepomis gibbosus, populations in two east-central Ontario lakes to test for age and size-dependent effects on the probability and timing of reproduction of mature females. Pumpkinseed body size characteristics differed in the two lakes; Little Round Lake harbours a stunted population and Beloporine Lake does not. Age-class distribution of mature females was determined by a maturity assessment on fish collected just prior to spawning and at the mid-spawning period, combined with an early-season capture-mark-recapture survey. Spawning females were collected throughout the breeding season to assess age and size-related temporal trends, and to compare their age and size distribution with that of mature females at large. The proportion of age 2 females in Little Round Lake that actually spawned was considerably lower than the proportion of mature age 2 females at large. Furthermore, age 2 females that spawned in this lake did not do so until late in the breeding season. In contrast, the proportion of young/small females spawning in Beloporine Lake was comparable to the proportion of young/small mature females at large, and both small and large females spawned throughout the breeding season. Small mature females in Little Round Lake may have had no other option but to spawn late in the season because of their poor body condition. In Beloporine Lake, condition factor early in the breeding season in age 2–4 females was higher than that of Little Round Lake females, suggesting that limited energy reserves in the spring may have prevented young Little Round Lake females from early spawning. Our results show that the likelihood and timing of reproduction are both age and size-dependent in some populations. Small individuals that delay seasonal maturation and spawn late in the summer probably contribute little to the population due to the restricted growth and reduced overwinter survival of their progeny.To whom correspondence should be addressed  相似文献

Reproductive steroid profiles in female (n=13) and male (n=5) red wolves (Canis rufus) were characterized in fecal samples collected during the breeding season (December—May) and over a 1 year period, respectively. Blood samples from females (n=12) also were collected during the periovulatory period for luteinizing hormone (LH) and steroid analysis. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) of fecal extracts determined that estradiol and estrone constituted the major and minor forms, respectively, of fecal estrogen metabolites. Although native progesterone was present, pregnane metabolites predominated as the major forms of fecal progestins. HPLC analysis of fecal extracts from males revealed no native testosterone, but rather the predominance of more polar androgen metabolites. Based on hormone profiles and/or pup production, females were classified as pregnant (n=3), ovulatory‐nonpregnant (n=9), or acyclic (n=3). Longitudinal monitoring of females indicated no pregnancy‐specific differences in concentrations of either fecal progestagen or estrogen metabolites compared to ovulatory‐nonpregnant individuals; however, baseline progestagen concentrations were consistently elevated in acyclic females. There was good correspondence between serum and fecal steroid concentration during the periovulatory period. A rise in serum estrogens preceded the ovulatory LH surge which was then followed by a significant progesterone rise during the luteal phase. In males, changes in fecal androgen metabolite concentrations coincided with photoperiod fluctuations, increasing in late autumn and reaching peak concentrations during mid‐ to late winter just before the start of the breeding season. Collectively, these results serve as a database of ovarian and testicular endocrine events in this species, which can be utilized in population management and application of assisted reproductive technologies. This study examined anatomical and histological characteristics of genital organs of 38 black agouti females in the wild in different reproductive stages, collected by rural hunters in the North-eastern Peruvian Amazon. Females in the follicular phase of the estrous cycle had greater antral follicle sizes than other females, the largest antral follicle measuring 2.34mm. Antral follicles in pregnant females and females in luteal phase of the estrous cycle had an average maximum diameter smaller than 1mm. In black agouti females in follicular phase, some antral follicles are selected to continue to growth, reaching a pre-ovulatory diameter of 2mm. Mean ovulation rate was 2.5 follicles and litter size was 2.1 embryos or fetuses per pregnant female, resulting in a rate of ovum mortality of 20.8%. Many follicles from which ovulation did not occur of 1-mm maximum diameter luteinize forming accessory CL. The constituent active luteal tissues of the ovary are functional and accessory CL. Although all females had accessory CL, transformation of follicles into accessory CL occurred especially in pregnant females, resulting in a contribution from 9% to 23% of the total luteal volume as pregnancy advances. The persistence of functional CL throughout pregnancy might reflect the importance for the maintenance of gestation and may be essential for the continuous hormonal production. The duplex uterus of the agouti female is composed by two completely independent uterine horns with correspondent separate cervices opening into the vagina. In pregnant females, most remarkable observed uterine adaptations were induced by the progressive enlargement caused by the normal pregnancy evolution. The wild black agouti showed different vaginal epithelium features in accordance with the reproductive state of the female.  相似文献
