The rice pathogen Fusarium fujikuroi is known for producing a wide range of secondary metabolites such as pigments, mycotoxins, and a group of phytohormones, the gibberellic acids (GAs). Bioactive forms of these diterpenes are responsible for hyperelongation of rice stems, yellowish chlorotic leaves, and reduced grain formation during the bakanae disease leading to severely decreased crop yields. GAs are also successfully applied in agriculture and horticulture as plant growth regulators to enhance crop yields, fruit size, and to induce earlier flowering. In this study, six F. fujikuroi wild-type and mutant strains differing in GA yields and the spectrum of produced GAs were cultivated in high-quality lab fermenters for optimal temperature and pH control and compared regarding their growth, GA production, and GA gene expression levels. Comparative analysis of the six strains revealed that strain 6314/ΔDESPPT1, holding mutations in two GA biosynthetic genes and an additional deletion of the 4'-phosphopantetheinyl transferase gene PPT1, exhibits the highest total GA amount. Expression studies of two GA biosynthesis genes, CPS/KS and DES, showed a constantly high expression level for both genes under production conditions (nitrogen limitation) in all strains. By cultivating these genetically engineered mutant strains, we were able to produce not only mixtures of different bioactive GAs (GA3, GA4, and GA7) but also pure GA4 or GA7. In addition, we show that the GA yields are not only determined by different production rates, but also by different decomposition rates of the end products GA3, GA4, and GA7 explaining the varying GA levels of genetically almost identical mutant strains.  相似文献

Microalgae are discussed as an alternative source for the production of biofuels. The lipid content compared to cultivation time of used species is the main reason for any choice of a special strain. This paper reviews more analytical data of 38 screened microalgae strains. After the cultivation period, total content of lipids was analysed. The extracted fatty acids were quantified as fatty acid methyl esters by GC analysis. The amino acids were analysed by HPLC. Chlorella sp., Chlorella saccharophila, Chlorella minutissima and Chlorella vulgaris were identified as species with the highest productivity of fatty acids relevant to transesterification reactions. The components were mainly linoleic acid, palmitic acid and oleic acid. To increase productivity of highly saturated fatty acids, cultivation parameters light intensity and temperature were varied. In this manner, the ideal conditions for biodiesel production were defined in this publication.  相似文献

New microalgal strains that are native to South-East Kazakhstan were isolated and characterized with a view to identifying suitable candidates for biodiesel production. Six strains of chlorophyte algae (named K1–K6) were recovered from environmental samples as axenic cultures, and molecular analysis revealed that five (K1–K5) are strains of Parachlorella kessleri, whereas K6 is a strain of Chlorella vulgaris. A third isolate from Uzbekistan (termed UZ) was also identified as a separate strain of P. kessleri. All strains show high growth rates and an ability to utilize acetate as an exogenous source of fixed carbon. Furthermore, under conditions of nitrogen depletion, all three strains showed a significant accumulation of neutral lipids (triacylglycerides). P. kessleri K5 and C. vulgaris K6 therefore represent promising autochthon strains for large-scale cultivation and biodiesel production in Kazakhstan.  相似文献

Burkholderia multivorans causes opportunistic pulmonary infections in cystic fibrosis and immunocompromised patients. The purpose of the present study was to determine the nature of the phospholipids and their fatty acid constituents comprising the cell envelope membranes of strains isolated from three disparate sources. A conventional method for obtaining the readily extractable lipids fraction from bacteria was employed to obtain membrane lipids for thin-layer chromatographic and gas chromatography-mass spectrophotometric analyses. Major fatty acid components of the B. multivorans readily extractable lipid fractions included C16:0 (palmitic acid), C16:1 (palmitoleic acid), and C18:1 (oleic acid), while C14:0 (myristic acid), ΔC17:0 (methylene hexadecanoic acid), C18:0 (stearic acid), and ΔC19:0 (methylene octadecanoic acid) were present in lesser amounts. Fatty acid composition differed quantitatively among strains with regard to C16:0, C16:1, ΔC17:0, C18:1, and ΔC19:0 with the unsaturated:saturated fatty acid ratios being significantly less in a cystic fibrosis type strain than either environmental or chronic granulomatous disease strains. Phospholipids identified in all B. multivorans strains included lyso-phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, and diphosphatidylglycerol in similar ratios. These data support the conclusion that the cell envelope phospholipid profiles of disparate B. multivorans strains are similar, while their respective fatty acyl substituent profiles differ quantitatively under identical cultivation conditions.  相似文献

Five strains (JA325, JA389, JA473, JA563 and JA582) of Gram stain-negative, vibrioid to spiral shaped, phototrophic purple bacteria were isolated from solar salterns of India. All strains contained bacteriochlorophyll-a and carotenoids of the spirilloxanthin series as photosynthetic pigments. C18:1ω7c, C18:1ω7c 11-methyl and C16:0 were the major fatty acids of all strains. Diphosphatidylglycerol (DPG), phosphatidylglycerol (PG), ornithine lipid (OL), an unidentified phospholipid (PL), and an unidentified aminolipid (AL) were the major polar lipids of all the strains. According to 16S rRNA gene sequences, all strains clustered phylogenetically with the only species of the genus Rhodothalassium (99.8–99.3% sequence similarity) but only strains JA325 and JA563 were distinctly related (60 + 1.5% DNA–DNA hybridization [DDH]) to the type strain Rhodothalassium salexigens DSM 2132T. However, the genotypic data of strains JA325 and JA563 was not supported because of a large number of phenotypic differences compared to the type strain, therefore, it is proposed that all five newly isolated strains were R. salexigens-like strains. In addition, phylogenetically, the Rhodothalassium clade represented a distinct lineage and formed a deep branch with less than 90% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to other orders of the Alphaproteobacteria, and characteristic phenotypic properties also distinguished these bacteria from other purple non-sulfur bacteria. Therefore, the novel family Rhodothalassiaceae fam. nov. and the novel order Rhodothalassiales ord. nov. are proposed for the distinct phyletic line represented by the genus Rhodothalassium.  相似文献

Soybean is the most important leguminous crop in Brazil and the nitrogen required for plant growth is supplied byBradyrhizobium bacteria through the symbiotic relation established by the inoculation process. Since 1992, two new strains, CPAC 7 and CPAC 15, which have been shown to increase yields in several field experiments, have been recommended in Brazilian commercial inoculants. CPAC 15 is a natural variant of theB. elkanii SEMIA 566 strain, and was isolated after several years of adaptation to a Brazilian Cerrado soil, while CPAC 7 is a variant ofB. japonicum strain CB 1809, selected under laboratory conditions for higher nodulation and yield. The comparison between parental and variant strains, under greenhouse conditions, showed that both CPAC 15 and CPAC 7 increased N2 fixation rates in relation to the parental strains. The better performance of CPAC 15 was related to an increase in nodule efficiency (mg N2 fixed mg-1 nodule) while with CPAC 7 the higher N2 fixation rates were due to increased nodulation. Both CPAC 15 and CPAC 7 increased nodule occupancy, when co-inoculated at a ratio of 1:1 withB. elkanii 29w, in relation to their parental strains. Variant strains also differed from parental in their ability to increase numbers of root hairs (Hai phenotype) either when inoculated onto plants, or when supernatants of bacteria exposed to seed exudates were used as inoculants. This results lead to the hypothesis that a modification in some of the “common” nodulation genes had occurred. However, the increase in Hai phenotype with CPAC 7 was dependent on the soybean cultivar, indicating a possible alteration in some genotypic specific nodulation gene. Apparently, there were no differences in Nod metabolites produced by strains CPAC 15 and SEMIA 566, but a more detailed chemical analysis would be required to rule out subtle differences. On the contrary, significant differences were found between CPAC 7 and the parental strain CP 1809, in the profile of Nod metabolites. Consequently, it may be possible that diffusable molecules, responsible for Hai phenotype, would be related to nodulation ability, competiviveness, and N2 fixation, resulting in the higher yields that have been associated with CPAC 7 and CPAC 15. For the CPAC 7 strain, the increase in Hai phenotype could be atributed to the differences found in the Nod molecules. Consequently, a high degree of physiological and genetic variability can result from the adaptation of rhizobial strains to the soil. Also, this variability can be found under laboratory conditions, when searching single colonies with specific properties. ei]Section editor: R O D Dixon  相似文献

To improve the economic viability of microalgal biodiesel, it will be essential to optimize the productivity of fuel molecules such as triacylglyceride (TAG) within the microalgal cell. To understand some of the triggers required for the metabolic switch to TAG production, we studied the effect of the carbon supply (acetate or CO2) in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii (wild type and the starchless sta6 mutant) grown under low N availability. As expected, initial rates of TAG production were much higher when acetate was present than under strictly photosynthetic conditions, particularly for the sta6 mutant, which cannot allocate resources to starch. However, in both strains, TAG production plateaued after a few days in mixotrophic cultures, whereas under autotrophic conditions, TAG levels continued to rise. Moreover, the reduced growth of the sta6 mutant meant that the greatest productivity (measured as mg TAG liter−1 day−1) was found in the wild type growing autotrophically. Wild-type cells responded to low N by autophagy, as shown by degradation of polar (membrane) lipids and loss of photosynthetic pigments, and this was less in cells supplied with acetate. In contrast, little or no autophagy was observed in sta6 mutant cells, regardless of the carbon supply. Instead, very high levels of free fatty acids were observed in the sta6 mutant, suggesting considerable alteration in metabolism. These measurements show the importance of carbon supply and strain selection for lipid productivity. Our findings will be of use for industrial cultivation, where it will be preferable to use fast-growing wild-type strains supplied with gaseous CO2 under autotrophic conditions rather than require an exogenous supply of organic carbon.  相似文献

Olive oil industry generates huge quantities of solid olive mill wastes (SOMW), causing environmental damage. Cultivation of edible mushrooms, such as Pleurotus ostreatus is a valuable approach for SOMW valorization. A local strain mycelium (Tizi-Ouzou, Algeria) of P. ostreatus (LPO) was isolated from castor oil plants. Oyster mushroom spawn, produced on barley grains, was used to inoculate wet SOMW, steamed in a traditional steamer during 45 min. The mycelium growth rate on SOMW was first estimated in Petri dish by measuring the surface colonized by the mycelium. The fruit body yields were estimated on culture bags containing 2 kg each of SOMW inoculated at 7% (w/w). The local strain potential was compared with that of a commercial one. Both strains produced high-quality mushrooms, but with low yields. The supplementation of the SOMW with wheat straw at the rate of 10% and 2% of CaCO3 had significantly enhanced the productivity of the two strains, multiplying it by 3.2 for LPO and by 2.6 for CPO.  相似文献

Discovery of potential bioactive metabolites from sponge-associated bacteria have gained attraction in recent years. The current study explores the potential of sponge (Suberea mollis) associated bacteria against bacterial and fungal pathogens. Sponge samples were collected from Red sea in Obhur region, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Of 29 isolated bacteria belong to four different classes i.e. Firmicutes (62%), γ-Proteobacteria (21%), α-Proteobacteria (10%) and Actinobacteria (7%). Among them nineteen (65%) bacterial strains showed antagonistic activity against oomycetes and only 3 (10%) bacterial strains were active against human pathogenic bacteria tested. Most bioactive genera include Bacillus (55%), Pseudovibrio (13%) and Ruegeria (10%). Enzyme production (protease, lipase, amylase, cellualse) was identified in 12 (41%) bacterial strains where potential strains belonging to γ-Proteobacteria and Firmicutes groups. Production of antimicrobial metabolites and hydrolysates in these bacteria suggest their potential role in sponge against pathogens. Further bioactive metabolites from selected strain of Vibrio sp. EA348 were identified using LC-MS and GC–MS analyses. We identified many active metabolites including antibiotics such as Amifloxacin and fosfomycin. Plant growth hormones including Indoleacetic acid and Gibberellin A3 and volatile organic compound such as methyl jasmonate were also detected in this strain. Our results highlighted the importance of marine bacteria inhabiting sponges as potential source of antimicrobial compounds and plant growth hormones of pharmaceutical and agricultural significance.  相似文献

Evidence obtained with industrial β-carotene-superproducing (+)T and (-)T strains, which fail to form zygotes, suggests that the lipids in the mycelium of the (-) strain of Blakeslea trispora lack linolenic acid. This circumstance apparently accounts for the fact that the (+) and (-) strains of B. trispora use different adaptive mechanisms to cope with an increase or decrease in cultivation temperature. In the (+) strain, temperature adaptation is based on changes in the ratio between linoleic and linolenic acyls and, also, involves shortening of acyl chains. In addition, the (+) strain contains a larger amount of protective carbohydrates, such as arabitol and trehalose. This strain is characterized by the presence of glycerol, a cryothermoprotector that protects fungal cells at low temperatures. The (-) strain lacks these biochemical mechanisms, but its neutral lipids contain a comparatively high amount of sterols and their esters. These facts enable us to interpret the enhanced thermotolerance of the (-) strain and its capacity to grow at high temperatures in terms of biochemical adaptation. In the light of the data obtained with wild-type and industrial strains, it is suggested that the lack of linolenic acid in the lipids should be considered an essential sex-specific property of the heterothallic strains of Blakeslea trispora.  相似文献

The levels of photosynthetic pigments and chlorophyll fluorescence of Porphyra yezoensis strains selected from high-light environments were investigated. Sutong and Sulian strains originated from the same high-light environment but were selected from different sites on the Yellow Sea coast of Jiangsu Province, China. In January (a low temperature period), the Sulian strain and the WT (a widely cultivated strain) had higher levels of chlorophyll a, phycoerythrin, phycocyanin, and allophycocyanin, and higher actual photochemical efficiency of PSII (ΔF/F m′) than the Sutong strain. This indicated that Sulian and the WT may have better adaptation to low temperature. In March (an optimal temperature period), Sutong had higher levels of photosynthetic pigments and higher ΔF/F m′ than the WT and Sulian strains. This suggested that Sutong had higher light use efficiency at optimal temperatures and that most energy absorbed by PSII was used for photosynthetic electron transport. The differing areas of origin of these strains may have resulted in these differences in temperature adaptation.  相似文献

Lipooligosaccharides (Nod metabolites) have been shown to be essential for the successful nodulation of legumes. In strains of Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. trifolii, Nod metabolites were detected predominantly within the cell and to a lesser extent in the periplasmic space and the growth medium. The production, and in particular the excretion, of Nod metabolites was restricted by a range of environmental conditions which are associated with poor nodulation in the field. Lowering the medium pH from 7.0 to 5.0, reducing the phosphate concentration from 1 mM to 5 μM KH2PO4, and lowering the incubation temperature from 28 to 18°C affected the number and relative concentrations of the Nod metabolites made. The form and concentration of the nitrogen source affected the relative concentrations of the Nod metabolites produced and excreted. KNO3 concentrations of >10 mM did not affect cell growth rate but substantially reduced the number of Nod metabolites released. Environmental stresses differentially altered Nod metabolite production and excretion in the same strain carrying different introduced nod regions. Strain ANU845(pWLH1) produced and excreted comparatively fewer Nod metabolites at pH 5.0 and at 18°C than strain ANU845(pRI4003). The excretion but not the production of Nod metabolites by strain ANU845(pRtO32) was dependent on the presence of both nodI and nodJ. Tn5-induced nodI and nodJ mutants did not accumulate any metabolites either outside the cell or within the outer membrane or periplasmic space. Recognition that Nod metabolite accumulation is a complex system of production and excretion, with each component responding differently to changes in environmental conditions, has many consequences, both at the molecular level and in the field. The ability of different strains to produce and release Nod metabolites is likely to be a major determinant of nodule occupancy and should be considered when screening strains suitable for adverse environments.  相似文献

Two isolates of Beauveria bassiana (Bb1 and Bb5 strains) were grown in solid-state and submerged cultures (SSC and SbC, respectively) in order to obtain conidia and dry mycelium preparations. The samples obtained at laboratory scale were tested as alternatives for their further use as mycoinsecticides to control the sugarcane borer Diatraea saccharalis. The spore yields obtained in SSC indicated that the Bb5 strain was able to produce around three times more conidia per gram of initial dry matter (3.7×1010) than the Bb1 strain (1.3×1010) in a solid medium composed of wheat bran and bran husk. Under this culture conditions, the former showed not only satisfactory spore yields, but also a higher bioinsecticidal activity than the latter. Laboratory bioassays carried out with conidia of both strains against D. saccharalis larvae indicated that the Bb5 strain promotes an insect mortality of 82.5% whereas only 21.3% was observed with the Bb1 strain preparations. Concerning the samples obtained in SbC, in which a culture medium based on glucose and yeast extract was employed, it is interesting to point out that although both strains showed similar behaviors with yields of approximately 1.50×1010 conidia per gram of dry mycelium, both preparations failed in their bioinsecticidal activities. Despite satisfactory yields, bioinsecticidal activity of the Bb1 and Bb5 strains dropped drastically showing a larvae mortality below 2%.  相似文献

This study was focused on a comparison of growth and production properties of seven red yeast strains of the genus Rhodotorula, Sporobolomyces and Cystofilobasidium cultivated on glycerol substrate. Production of enriched yeast biomas and specific yeast metabolites (carotenoids, ergosterol, lipids) was evaluated on medium with glucose, pure technical glycerol and/or waste glycerol from biofuel production (40 g/L) and mixture of glycerol and glucose (1:3, 1:1, 3:1; C/N ratio 57 in all cultivations). All tested strains were able to utilize glycerol as the only carbon source. Production of biomass on waste glycerol was in most strains higher than in control as well as in medium with pure technical glycerol and reached 15.97–21.76 g/L. Production of carotenoids and ergosterol was better in glucose medium than in medium with glycerol only. Nevertheless, using glycerol medium with addition of glucose, higher yields of total carotenoids, beta-carotene and ergosterol were obtained than in control. The highest yields of total pigments were reached by Sporobolomyces roseus (3.60 mg/g cell dry weight (CDW); glycerol:glucose 1:3), Sporobolomyces salmonicolor (2.85 mg/g CDW; glycerol:glucose 1:3) and Rhodotorula glutinis (2.80 mg/g CDW; glycerol:glucose 3:1) In glucose medium, most tested strains except Cystofilobasidium capitatum (22.6 %) produced neutral lipids in the range of 11–15 %. Production of triacylglycerols in all strains was in 10–30 % better in glycerol medium, in which Rhodotorula aurantiaca and Sporobolomyces shibatanus also reached intracellular triacylglycerol concentrations up to 20 % of biomass. This study has shown that oleaginous red yeasts could have great potential for converting crude glycerol to valuable lipids and carotenoids in respect of efficient bioresources utilization.  相似文献

Basil cultivars are among most used crops worldwide, but high level of morpho-physiological variations is mainly due to the cultivation characteristics. The present study aimed to investigate the physiological changes and the accumulation of secondary metabolites as a response to prolonged nutrient deprivation in shoots and roots of sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum L. var. minimum). Sweet basil seedlings were grown in media with quarter, half and full strength of micro and macronutrients under different levels of KNO3 alone or in combination with different levels of NH4NO3. Evaluated parameters included characteristics of germination, development of leaves, content of photosynthetic pigments and responses of different parameters related to oxidative stress. While the early growth is influenced mainly due to NH4NO3 presence, all the levels of nutrient supply were found to trigger and maintain the antioxidant defence system of sweet basil seedlings. With the variations among seedling parts, the ammonium nutrition was notably enhanced levels of activity of SOD, CAT, A-POX, G-POX and P-POX, but had no effect on total antioxidant activity and total phenolic content, including flavonoids, which is mainly accumulated in nutrient deprived roots. In addition, phenylalanine ammonia-lyase activity was analysed and potential pathways of secondary metabolites synthesis were discussed. The enzymatic and non-enzymatic system in O. basilicum var. minimum seedlings was capable to reverse the stress conditions during growth under nutrient deprivation.  相似文献

Mutant strains of Bradyrhizobium japonicum that required higher levels of molybdate than the wild-type strain for growth on NO3-containing medium were obtained after transposon Tn5 mutagenesis of the wild-type strain. The mutant strains expressed more than fivefold-greater nitrate reductase activities in the range of 0.1 to 1.0 mM added molybdate compared with activities expressed upon incubation in non-Mo-supplemented medium, whereas the nitrate reductase activity of the wild-type strain (JH) was not markedly influenced by Mo supplementation. In free-living culture, mutant strains JH310 and JH359 expressed substantial nitrogenase activity, even in medium treated to remove molybdate, and nitrogenase activity was influenced little by Mo supplementation, whereas the wild-type strain required 100 nM added Mo for highest nitrogenase activity. Double-reciprocal plots of Mo uptake rates versus Mo concentration showed that both bacteroids and free-living cells of mutant strain JH359 had about the same affinity for Mo as did the parent strain. Bacteroids of both the mutants and the wild type also exhibited similar Mo accumulation rates over a 9-min period under very-low-Mo (4 nM) conditions. Nitrogenase activities for strain JH359 and for the wild-type strain in free-living culture were both strongly inhibited by tungsten; thus, the nitrogenase activities of both strains are probably the result of a “conventional” Mo-containing nitrogenase. Soybeans inoculated with strain JH359 and grown under either Mo-supplemented or Mo-deficient conditions had greater specific acetylene reduction rates and significantly greater plant fresh weight than those inoculated with the wild-type strain. Under Mo-deficient conditions, the acetylene reduction rates and plant fresh weights were up to 35 and 58% greater, respectively, for mutant-nodulated plants compared with wild-type-strain-nodulated plants.  相似文献

Clostridium thermocellum is a major candidate for bioethanol production via consolidated bioprocessing. However, the low ethanol tolerance of the organism dramatically impedes its usage in industry. To explore the mechanism of ethanol tolerance in this microorganism, systematic metabolomics was adopted to analyse the metabolic phenotypes of a C. thermocellum wild-type (WT) strain and an ethanol-tolerant strain cultivated without (ET0) or with (ET3) 3% (v/v) exogenous ethanol. Metabolomics analysis elucidated that the levels of numerous metabolites in different pathways were changed for the metabolic adaption of ethanol-tolerant C. thermocellum. The most interesting phenomenon was that cellodextrin was significantly more accumulated in the ethanol-tolerant strain compared with the WT strain, although cellobiose was completely consumed in both the ethanol-tolerant and wild-type strains. These results suggest that the cellodextrin synthesis was active, which might be a potential mechanism for stress resistance. Moreover, the overflow of many intermediate metabolites, which indicates the metabolic imbalance, in the ET0 cultivation was more significant than in the WT and ET3 cultivations. This indicates that the metabolic balance of the ethanol-tolerant strain was adapted better to the condition of ethanol stress. This study provides additional insight into the mechanism of ethanol tolerance and is valuable for further metabolic engineering aimed at higher bioethanol production.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to identify bacteria that can perform As(III) oxidation for environmental bioremediation. Two bacterial strains, named JHS3 and JHW3, which can autotrophically oxidize As(III)–As(V) with oxygen as an electron acceptor, were isolated from soil and water samples collected in the vicinity of an arsenic-contaminated site. According to 16S ribosomal RNA sequence analysis, both strains belong to the ?-Proteobacteria class and share 99% sequence identity with previously described strains. JHS3 appears to be a new strain of the Acinetobacter genus, whereas JHW3 is likely to be a novel strain of the Klebsiella genus. Both strains possess the aioA gene encoding an arsenite oxidase and are capable of chemolithoautotrophic growth in the presence of As(III) up to 10 mM as a primary electron donor. Cell growth and As(III) oxidation rate of both strains were significantly enhanced during cultivation under heterotrophic conditions. Under anaerobic conditions, only strain JHW3 oxidized As(III) using nitrate or a solid-state electrode of a bioelectrochemical system as a terminal electron acceptor. Kinetic studies of As(III) oxidation under aerobic condition demonstrated a higher V max and K m from strain JHW3 than strain JHS3. This study indicated the potential application of strain JHW3 for remediation of subsurface environments contaminated with arsenic.  相似文献

Aerobic metabolism and response to oxidative stress and starvation were studied in 11 Lactobacillus plantarum, L. paraplantarum and L. pentosus strains in order to assess the impact of aerobic metabolism on the growth and on the stress response. The strains were grown in aerobiosis without supplementation (AE), with hemin (AEH) or with hemin and menaquinone (AEHM) supplementation and in anaerobiosis (AN) in a complex buffered substrate. Growth rate, biomass yield, glucose and O2 consumption, production of lactic acid and H2O2, catalase activity, oxidative and starvation stress tolerance were evaluated. Aerobic growth increased biomass yield in late stationary phase. Further increase in yield was obtained with both hemin (H) and menaquinone (M) addition. With few exceptions, the increase in biomass correlated with the decrease of lactic acid which, however, decreased in anaerobic conditions as well in some strains. Addition of H or H + M increased growth rate for some strains but reduced the duration of the lag phase. H2O2 production was found only for aerobic growth with no supplementation due to catalase production when hemin was supplemented. To our knowledge this is the first study in which the advantages of aerobic growth with H or H + M in improving tolerance of oxidative stress and long-term survival is demonstrated on several strains of the L. plantarum group. The results may have significant technological consequences for both starter and probiotic production.  相似文献

Microalgal biomass as feedstock for biofuel production is an attracting alternative to terrestrial plant utilization for biofuels production. However, today the microalgal cultivation systems for energy production purposes seem not yet to be economically feasible. Microalgae, though cultivated under stress conditions, such as nutrient starvation, high salinity, high temperature etc. accumulate considerable amounts (up to 60–65% of dry weight) of lipids or carbohydrates along with several secondary metabolites. Especially some of the latter are valuable compounds with an enormous range of industrial applications. The simultaneous production of lipids or carbohydrates for biofuel production and of secondary metabolites in a biorefinery concept might allow the microalgal production to be economically feasible. This paper aims to provide a review on the available literature about the cultivation of microalgae for the accumulation of high-value compounds along with lipids or carbohydrates focusing on stress cultivation conditions.  相似文献
