The main objective was to examine effects of season, parity, genotype, lactation length, and weaning-to-estrus interval on duration of estrus (DE) and onset of estrus-to-ovulation interval (EOI) in three sow farms. Detection of estrus and ovulation by the back-pressure test and transabdominal ultrasonography, respectively, were performed every 6 h from day 2-10 postweaning in 535 sows (approximately 89 per farm per season). The average weaning-to-estrus interval, DE, and EOI of the 501 sows that returned to estrus by day 10 postweaning were 4.6+/-0.1 days, 55.2+/-0.5 h, and 41.8+/-0.5 h, respectively. Farm x season (P<0.01), parity x season (P <0.05), and farm x weaning-to-estrus interval (P<0.05) interactions for DE and EOI were detected. Sows weaned in the summer had an 8 h longer (P<0.001) DE and EOI than those weaned in the spring on farms 1 and 3. On farm 2 however, DE and EOI did not differ (P=0.09) in sows weaned in summer versus spring. On each farm, parity 3 and > or =4 sows had a 4.5 h longer (P<0.05) DE and EOI than parity 1 and 2 sows in the summer, but there were no differences (P>0.11) in DE or EOI among parity classes in the spring. There was a linear decrease of DE (P<0.001) and EOI (P<0.05) as weaning-to-estrus interval increased from the 3 to the > or =7 day class on each farm. However, the range of weaning-to-estrus interval that exhibited a stepwise decrease of DE and EOI was narrower on farm 1 (3-5 days) than farms 2 and 3 (3-6 days). Only farms 1 and 3 had multiple genotypes. Genotype did not affect (P>0.14) DE on either farm, but the EOI of genotype B was 4 h shorter (P<0.05) than genotype C on farm 1. On each farm, DE decreased linearly (P<0.01) as lactation length increased from < or =13 to > or =20 days. In general, factors that affected EOI also affected (P<0.05) the percentage of inseminations that occurred within 24 h pre- to 3h post-ovulation. These data indicate that factors other than weaning-to-estrus interval, such as season and parity, can significantly alter DE and EOI. However, the effects of season and weaning-to-estrus interval on DE and EOI can be inconsistent among different farms.  相似文献

Sixty Holstein donor cows were superovulated and embryos were collected during a 6-d (27 cows) and a 4-d (33 cows) period approximately 60 d apart. Forty-three donor cows yielded embryos. Ninety-one embryos graded 1 or 2 were split and transferred to 181 recipient Holsteins. Demi-embryos were graded 2, 2-, 3 and 3- prior to transfer. Pregnancy and calving percentages were similar for all demi-embryo grades, averaging 59 and 53% from the two donor groups, respectively. Twin demi-embryo pregnancies averaged 36 and 19% for embryos split at the compacted morula and blastocyst stages, respectively. Twin demi-embryo calvings averaged 30 and 15% for these same groups. Progesterone levels of recipients (of either whole or demi-embryos) of second period donors were measured. Pregnancy rate increased generally with level of progesterone; however, calving percentage was slightly greater for recipients with intermediate levels of progesterone (2-6 ng/ml). Multiparous cow (20) recipients of demi-embryos had 45% pregnancy and 40% calving, while nulliparous heifer (161) recipients averaged 59 and 53% pregnancy and calving, respectively.  相似文献

The present study was designed to establish whether factors such as previous estrus synchronization, corpus luteum and embryo number at the time of pregnancy diagnosis, changes in body condition score, milk production, clinical disease (mastitis or lameness) and the inseminating bull affect pregnancy loss from 38 to 90 days of gestation. We derived data from 601 pregnant lactating dairy cows from a single herd. Pregnancy diagnosis was performed by ultrasonography between Day 38 and 44 following insemination. We also recorded corpus luteum and embryo number at this time. Pregnancy loss was defined as a negative pregnancy diagnosis on the second palpation per rectum undertaken between 90 and 96 days after insemination. Data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression methods. Cows that had an additional corpus luteum were eight times less likely to miscarry. The risk of pregnancy loss was 3.1 times higher in cows bearing twins. A one unit reduction in body condition score from previous partum to 30 days postpartum resulted in a 2.4-fold increase in pregnancy loss. We noted a higher incidence of pregnancy loss in cows inseminated using semen from one of the six bulls used. This particular bull led to a 3.4-fold increase in the rate of pregnancy loss. Logistic regression analysis showed no significant effects of previous estrus synchronization, milk production, clinical disease, body condition at previous partum or at pregnancy diagnosis, or body condition change between previous partum and pregnancy diagnosis. Our findings indicate a positive relationship between the presence of an additional corpus luteum and the maintenance of gestation. Risk factors for pregnancy loss were twin pregnancy, reduced body condition after previous parturition and the inseminating bull.  相似文献

Total follicular populations in ewes of high and low ovulation rates.   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The total ovarian follicular populations were studied in two breeds of ewes which differed greatly in their ovulation rates. Thus 8 Romanov (mean ovulation rate 3.1) and 12 Ile-de-France ewes (mean ovulation rate 1.4) were ovariectomized at oestrus during the breeding season. Each right ovary and 3 left ovaries were sectioned at 7 micron and examined microscopically. The number of small follicles, i.e. with 2 or less layers of granulosa cells, was estimated by a tested sampling procedure whilst all larger follicles were measured and arranged into classes. There were half as many small follicles but 1.5--2 times more large follicles in the ovaries of the Romanov ewes compared to those of the Ile-de-France ewes. The number of atretic follicles was approximately the same in both breeds and does not explain the difference observed in ovulation rate. It is concluded that the higher ovulation rate in the Romanov ewe is due to the greater number of large follicles available to be stimulated for ovulation.  相似文献

Our objective was to determine the magnitude of, and factors affecting, pregnancy loss for lactating Holstein cows on a commercial dairy farm when diagnosed with twin (n = 98) or single (n = 518) pregnancies using transrectal ultrasonography. Pregnancy losses were assessed with records of non-viable embryos at first pregnancy examination and embryo losses between the first (25-40 d after AI) and second (48 and 82 d after AI) post-breeding pregnancy examinations. Among cows diagnosed with single pregnancies, 3.7% were diagnosed with a non-viable embryo at first pregnancy examination, and 4.6% of those diagnosed with a viable embryo underwent pregnancy loss by the second examination. A total of 11.2% of cows diagnosed with twins experienced a single embryo reduction, whereas 13.3% lost both embryos. Overall, the total proportion of cows experiencing pregnancy loss or experiencing embryo reduction was greater for cows diagnosed with twin than single pregnancies (odds ratio; OR = 3.6), resulting in an embryo survival rate of 91.9% for cows diagnosed with single compared to 75.5% for cows diagnosed with twin pregnancies. Season of breeding and milk production were associated with pregnancy loss for single pregnancies, whereas CL number was associated negatively with embryo reduction and pregnancy loss for twin pregnancies. The risk of twinning and double ovulation among pregnant cows increased with days in milk (DIM), and the risk of double ovulation was greater for cows diagnosed with ovarian cysts and lacking a CL at initiation of an Ovsynch protocol. We concluded that in this herd, embryo reduction and pregnancy loss during early gestation was greater for lactating Holstein cows diagnosed with twin compared to single pregnancies. In addition, cows diagnosed with ovarian cysts and lacking a CL had an increased risk for double ovulation.  相似文献

Vigilance in vertebrates is often inversely related to group size. We present evidence that distance to bushes and location within the herd are also critical factors in vigilance in springbok (Antidorcas marsupialis) in Etosha National Park, Namibia, where they are the preferred prey of cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus). Most springbok feed in heterospecific herds, both by grazing on grass and browsing on bushes. We studied 1245 animals; variations in vigilance (time alert) were explained by location within the herd, distance to bushes and roads, number of springbok in each herd, and gender and age. Vigilance time decreased with increasing herd size, with increasing distance to bushes and roads, and with density. Springbok on the edge of herds devoted significantly more time to vigilance than did those in other locations, and vigilance in edge animals decreased with group size. Adults were more vigilant than young, and males were more vigilant than females. Position within the herd, and distance from bushes, were the most important variables influencing vigilance. Location in the herd and gender/age affected both browsing and grazing springbok, although other factors accounted for the differences in vigilance between browsing and grazing springbok: 1) group size was not significant for browsers, but it was for grazers, and 2) distances to bushes and road were not significant for browsers, but they were for grazers. These data relate to the risk from predators and the benefits from other group members. Springbok in bushes cannot see all members of the herd, cannot derive early warning from many group members, and are more at risk from predators because the latter can hide in the bushes. We examined the effect of inseminating mixed parity sows (n = 231) once with fewer sperm at different times relative to ovulation. Lactation length was 19 days and sows received an IM injection of 600 IU equine chorionic gonadotrophin (eCG) 12 h before weaning. At 80 h after eCG injection, sows received an IM injection of 5 mg porcine luteinizing hormone (pLH). Predicted time of ovulation (PTO) was 38 h after pLH injection. Sows were assigned by parity to receive a single transcervical artificial insemination (AI) at either 6 or 24 h before PTO with semen doses containing either 2.5 or 1.25 × 109 sperm. A positive control group of sows (n = 49) was subject to conventional AI 24 and 6 h before PTO. Detection of estrus was performed in the presence of a boar and only sows exhibiting estrous behavior at the assigned time of AI were included in the study. Farrowing rate for sows receiving 2.5 × 109 sperm at 6 h before PTO was greater than that for sows receiving 1.25 × 109 sperm at 24 h before PTO (85% versus 61%, P < 0.05). All other groups were intermediate. There was no effect of time of AI or sperm numbers on subsequent litter size. These data indicate that single insemination of fewer sperm may compromise sow fertility, even when performed transcervically, if not appropriately timed relative to ovulation.  相似文献

Cyclic Spanish Merino ewes were treated on Day 13 of the estrous cycle with 12 mg, i.m., FSH-P in saline (n = 9) or propylene glycol (n = 24), currently with 100 micrograms, i.m., Cloprostenol (Day 0). From Day-6 to Day 0, the ewes were observed daily by transrectal ultrasonography, after Day 0, ultrasonography was performed every 12 h for 72 h. Sizes and locations of > or = 2 mm follicles were recorded at each observation. The ovulation rate was determined by laparoscopy on Day 7 after estrus. The number of ovulations ranged from 0 to 6 in ewes treated with FSH-P in saline and from 0 to 16 in ewes receiving FSH-P in propylene glycol (P < 0.05). In the latter group, the response was bimodally distributed; about half of the females had 1 ovulation, whereas the remainder had > 4 with a mean of 7 ovulations. The ovulation rate was associated with 2 characteristics of the largest follicle present at treatment (Day 0). First, if the largest follicle on Day 0 had not changed in diameter from Day-1 to Day 0, then 7 of 9 ewes had > 3 ovulations; if the largest follicle had either increased or decreased, only 8 of 24 ewes had > 3 ovulations (P < 0.05). Second, there was a linear trend (P < 0.07) for ovulation rate to decrease as the persistence of the largest follicle at treatment increased; no ewe in which the largest follicle on Day 0 remained present for more than 36 h ovulated more than 6 follicles. As with the ovulation rate, the numbers of large follicles on Days 1.5, 2 and 2.5 varied with the interaction of change in diameter of the largest follicle on Day 0 from Day-1 to Day 0 and with vehicle. In summary, the superovulatory response was affected by the change in diameter from Day-1 to Day 0 of the largest follicle on Day 0 and the period required for that follicle to regress after treatment with FSH-P and cloprostenol.  相似文献

The influence of age, dominance rank, kinship and aggressiveness over affiliative relationships and sexual behaviours were analysed in a herd of Sorraia horses, Equus caballus, kept under extensive management. Subjects were 10 adult mares 5-18 years old that had known each other since birth, and a stallion introduced into the group for breeding for the first time. Kinship coefficient and dominance rank were the most important factors affecting affiliative relationships. Bonds were reciprocal and stronger among mares with higher kinship. Mares spent more time in proximity to close-ranking and lower-ranking females. Mares with stronger affiliative relationships or higher relatedness were not less aggressive towards each other. Affiliative relationships between the stallion and the mares were not reciprocal: lower-ranking mares formed stronger bonds with the stallion but he preferred the less genetically related mares for proximity. However, the stallion was involved in sexual behaviours more frequently with the mares that were more genetically related to him. These results suggest that kinship beyond close relatives may affect affiliative relationships both among familiar and among unfamiliar horses. However, the influence of kinship does not imply that horses possess a kin recognition system and alternative explanations are discussed.  相似文献

New reproductive technologies include sexed sperm and embryo-based technologies. The technology of sperm sexing, for various reasons, is not available in New Zealand and its use has not been modelled. Embryo technologies are however already in use on a limited scale and various scenarios for their use in both the dairy and beef industries in New Zealand have been modelled. This review briefly discusses the various technologies available and some of their potential strengths and weaknesses. In the dairy industry, modelling has been used to simulate the production of breeding bulls for large breeding companies and the production of replacement heifers in dairy herds. For the beef industry, similar modelling has been carried out to determine the opportunities for more efficient beef production. All the models confirmed that at current levels of performance, embryo-based reproductive technologies are usually not profitable in New Zealand except in niche market situations where the returns from the resulting offspring are significantly greater than can be obtained from natural mating or artificial insemination (AI) reproduction systems. This is confirmed by the low uptake of these technologies in this country to date. Even if performance lifts to levels similar to AI, profitability is likely to occur only if the costs of pregnancies to embryo-based reproductive technologies can occur at prices less than two to four times greater than AI or natural mating. This break-even requirement depends on the returns that can be achieved and the advantages that can be captured by the technology over and above those available from AI or natural mating. Two new uses for reproductive technologies in dairy cattle could be the proliferation of novel or rare genotypes from gene discovery programs and improving the female reproductive rate for optimal marker assisted selection. In both these uses the technology is not at present competing with AI or natural mating. The challenge exists therefore for the biological scientists to satisfy these requirements, coupled with the ethical and human factors involved in the introduction of any new technology.Potential end users of the technologies have been surveyed. They are quite positive about the technologies provided they can use them profitably and are keen to obtain more information about them.  相似文献

In a study of 4 cyclic dry cows (Trial I) and 6 cyclic puberal heifers (Trial II), unilateral ovariectomy increased the number of ovulatory follicles, did not alter the hormone profile, cycle length or the number of follicular waves. Ovarian follicular development in all 4 cows was monitored daily using transrectal ultrasonography until the day of ovulation, during which period daily blood samples were also taken from the tail vein for determination of plasma FSH, LH and P4 concentrations. Unilateral ovariectomy was performed on the day after ovulation and ovarian activity was again monitored daily (ultrasonography and blood sampling for FSH, LH and P4) for 2 consecutive cycles (8 cycles in all). Estrus in all 6 heifers was synchronized using 2 injections of PGF2 alpha given 12 d apart. Similarly, ovarian activity in the 6 puberal heifers was monitored daily using ultrasonography and blood sampling for 1 complete control cycle. Following estrus and ovulation the left ovary was removed in all the animals, and thereafter 1 complete cycle was followed. Mean cycle length, FSH, LH and P4 concentrations before and after unilateral ovariectomy were compared using paired sample t-test. The results show that unilateral ovariectomy neither altered the cycle length nor the number of follicular waves in the cows, but it increased the number of ovulatory follicles (2 follicles developed and ovulated in 6 of the 8 cycles). The mean diameter of the largest follicle was 16.1 +/- 0.9 mm and the second largest 12.5 +/- 0.9 mm. No significant (P > 0.05) differences were observed in FSH (0.72 +/- 0.09 vs 0.71 +/- 0.07), LH (0.42 +/- 0.1 vs 0.37 +/- 0.07) and P4 (2.8 +/- 0.6 vs 2.6 +/- 0.4) levels before and after unilateral ovariectomy. Of the 6 heifers, 5 had 2 waves and 1 heifer had 3 waves of follicular growth during the control cycle, and this pattern did not change after the procedure. Mean cycle length (20.7 +/- 0.9 vs 21 +/- 0.9) did not differ before and after unilateral ovariectomy, and 4 of the 6 heifers ovulated twin follicles following ovariectomy. The mean diameter of the largest follicle was 14.5 +/- 0.7 mm and second largest measured 12.1 +/- 0.8 mm. No significant (P > 0.05) differences were observed in FSH (0.16 +/- 0.09 vs 0.21 +/- 0.07), LH (0.11 +/- 0.1 vs 0.15 +/- 0.07) and P4 levels (3.6 +/- 0.26 vs 3.8 +/- 0.29) before and after unilateral ovariectomy. Based on these results, we conclude that unilateral ovariectomy is an ideal method for obtaining twin ovulations in cows and heifers.  相似文献

Progeny born to primiparous sows farrowing their first litter, often called gilt progeny (GP), are typically characterised by their poorer overall production performance than progeny from multiparous sows (sow progeny; SP). Gilt progeny consistently grow slower, are born and weaned lighter, and have higher postweaning illness and mortality rates than SP. Collectively, their poorer performance culminates in a long time to reach market weight and, ultimately, reduced revenue. Due to the high replacement rates of sows, the primiparous sow and her progeny represent a large proportion of the herd resulting in a significant loss for the pig industry. While the reasons for poorer performance are complex and multifaceted, they may largely be attributed to the immature age at which gilts are often mated and the significant impact of this on their metabolism during gestation and lactation. As a result, this can have negative consequences on the piglet itself. To improve GP performance, it is crucial to understand the biological basis for differences between GP and SP. The purpose of this review is to summarise published literature investigating differences in growth performance and health status between GP and SP. It also examines the primiparous sow during gestation and lactation and how the young sow must support her own growth while supporting the metabolic demands of her pregnancy and the growth and development of her litter. Finally, the underlying physiology of GP is discussed in terms of growth and development in utero, the neonatal period, and the early development of the gastrointestinal tract. The present review concludes that there are a number of interplaying factors relating to the anatomy and physiology of the primiparous sow and of GP themselves. The studies presented herein strongly suggest that poor support of piglet growth in utero and reduced colostrum and milk production and consumption are largely responsible for the underperformance of GP. It is therefore recommended that future management strategies focus on supporting the primiparous sow during gestation and lactation, increasing the preweaning growth of GP to improve their ability to cope with the stressors of weaning, selection of reproductive traits such as uterine capacity to improve birth weights and ultimately GP performance, and finally, increase the longevity of sows to reduce the proportion of GP entering the herd.  相似文献

Factors influencing plasma progesterone concentration were investigated in seven mares. Two-phase logistic curves were fitted (r=0.98) to plasma progesterone concentrations of blood samples collected once daily. In addition to the effect of time (P<0.001), there were differences (P<0.01) among mares in the peak height of the progesterone plateau and in the (area under the curve) AUC. Plasma progesterone concentrations were higher (P<0.001) after a multiple versus single ovulation. There was an effect of season (P<0.001), but no significant effect of luteal morphology. The retrospective determination of time of ovulation was carried out using a linear model on the seven mares and 25 additional mares. Linear regression on the measured values or on the ratio to the average concentration from D5 to D10, was calculated with the day of cycle between D0 and D4. The ovulation date was then calculated using both of these equations, whether blood sampling was performed twice or thrice weekly on 25 postpartum mares. The accuracy to predict day of ovulation (+/- 1 day) ranged from 88 to 97%. In conclusion, the retrospective estimation of time of ovulation in mares was possible, although the technique had some limitations.  相似文献

Recent advances in image technology, including significant gains in spatial resolution, have made realtime sequential ovarian evaluations possible in small rodents, allowing longitudinal (continued) studies of the ovarian cycle and reducing the required number of experimental animals. The aim of this study was to evaluate exogenous stimulated follicular growth in mice using high-resolution ultrasound technology. Female mice (n = 15) received a 5 IU intraperitoneal injection of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) and 48 h later a 5 IU injection of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), and were allowed to mate thereafter. In experiment 1, animals (n = 7) were evaluated every 6 h, from 3 to 51 h after eCG injection, with an ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) equipped with a realtime 45 MHz microvisualization probe (RMV 707b). The ovaries were identified and follicular population quantified, and follicles were classified according to the diameter as small (≤449 μm) or large (≥450 μm). A significant change in the distribution of follicle population according to category was observed only 45 h after eCG injection (P < 0.05). In experiment 2, animals (n = 8) were evaluated every 2 h, from 2 h to 10 h after hCG treatment. The largest follicles reached a maximum size (596.7 ± 106.0 μm) 5.8 ± 2.3 h after hCG injection. As expected, the population of large follicles decreased thereafter, indicating the progress of ovulations, but large follicles were still detected late after treatment (10.1 ± 1.1 h). In conclusion, UBM can be used to evaluate follicle dynamics in superstimulated mice (C57BL/6 and BALB/c); significant changes in follicle distribution only occur at later stages after eCG stimulation; and hCG-induced ovulations may not occur synchronously in mice.  相似文献

Follicular fluid from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 mm diameter non-atretic follicles (SFF and LFF, respectively) of sows was added during IVM of cumulus oocytes complexes (COCs) to study its effects on cumulus expansion, nuclear maturation, and subsequent fertilization and embryo development in presence or absence of recombinant human FSH. COCs aspirated from 2 to 5 mm follicles of sow ovaries, were cultured for the first 22 h in TCM-199 and 100 microM cysteamine, with or without 10% pFF and/or 0.05 IU/ml recombinant hFSH. For the next 22 h, the COCs were cultured in the same medium, but without pFF and FSH. After culture, cumulus cells were removed and the oocytes were either fixed and stained to evaluate nuclear stages or co-incubated with fresh sperm. Twenty-four hours after fertilization, presumptive zygotes were fixed to examine fertilization or cultured for 6 days to allow blastocyst formation. Subsequently, embryos were evaluated and the blastocysts were fixed and stained to determine cell numbers. When LFF was added to maturation medium, cumulus expansion and percentage of nuclear maturation (277 +/- 61 microm and 72%, respectively) of COCs were significantly higher (P < 0.05) than those in SFF (238 +/- 33 microm and 55%, respectively). However, in the presence of FSH both FF stimulated cumulus expansion and nuclear maturation to a similar degree. No differences were observed with regards to sperm penetration, male pronucleus formation, and to polyspermia between fertilized oocytes matured either in SFF or LFF. Fertilized oocytes matured in the presence of LFF without or with FSH showed a higher cleavage (45 +/- 7% and 51 +/- 7%, respectively) and blastocyst (14 +/- 4% and 22 +/- 6%, respectively) formation rate compared to SFF (cleavage, 35 +/- 8% and 41 +/- 4%, blastocyst: 8 +/- 3 and 13 +/-3, respectively; P < 0.05). The mean number of cells per blastocyst did not differ significantly between treatments. These findings indicate that factor(s) within follicles at later stages of development play an important role during oocyte maturation and thereby enhance developmental competence to occur.  相似文献

The initial adhesion of oral bacteria to a tooth in vitro was examined. The organisms were grown in broth with and without sucrose, and suspensions made either in broth or a modified Ringer's solution. The tooth used was either dry or coated with natural or synthetic saliva. Adhesion was determined by counting organisms removed from the tooth surface by simple washing or by sonication. It was found that the firmest bonding occurred when a dry tooth was immersed in a suspension of bacteria in Ringer's solution; the prior growth of the organisms in the presence of sucrose did not affect adhesion. It was concluded that instantaneous irreversible adhesion of bacteria to a tooth occurs without the need for active metabolism, and that this process is inhibited by the presence of competing organic substances which probably produce a surface-conditioning film.  相似文献

Ovarian follicular development was characterized in 24 Spanish Merino ewes to study effects of the follicular status and the FSH commercial product used on follicular growth and subsequent superovulatory response. Estrus was synchronized using 40 mg fluorogestone acetate sponges. The superovulatory treatment consisted in 2 daily i.m. injections of FSH from 48 h before to 12 h after sponge removal. Sheep were assigned randomly to 2 groups treated with 6 decreasing doses (4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2 mg) of FSH-P or with 6 doses of 1.25 mL of OVAGEN. Growth and regression of all follicles > or = 2 mm were observed by transrectal ultrasonography, and recorded daily from Day 6 before sponge insertion to the first FSH injection, and then twice daily until estrus was detected with vasectomized rams. Differences were detected in follicular development from the first FSH injection to detection of estrus (-48 to 36 h from sponge removal) between groups. Administration of FSH-P increased the appearance of new follicles with respect to OVAGEN (6.3 +/- 0.7 vs 4.8 +/- 0.4; P < 0.05), and the mean number of medium (4 to 5 mm) follicles (8.9 +/- 1.2 vs 6.6 +/- 0.9; P < 0.05). However, the mean number of follicles that regressed in size after sponge removal (5.9 +/- 0.4 vs 3.3 +/- 0.4) and the number of preovulatory sized follicles that did not ovulate (60 vs 42.4%) were also higher in FSH-P treated ewes (P < 0.05). So, finally, there were no differences in ovulation rate, as determined by laparoscopy on Day 7 after sponge removal, between ewes treated with FSH-P or OVAGEN (6.3 +/- 1.9 vs 7.0 +/- 1.7 CL). In all the ewes, the ovulatory response was related (P < 0.05) both to the number of small follicles (2 to 3 mm in diameter) present in the ovaries at the start of treatment with exogenous FSH and to the number of follicles that reached > or = 4 mm in size at estrus, despite differences in the pattern of follicular development when using different commercial products.  相似文献
