The room temperature (RT) processability of the photoactive layers in polymer solar cells (PSCs) from halogen‐free solvent along with their highly reproducible power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) and intrinsic thickness tolerance are extremely desirable for the large‐area roll‐to‐roll (R2R) production. However, most of the photoactive materials in PSCs require elevated processing temperatures due to their strong aggregation, which are unfavorable for the industrial R2R manufacturing of PSCs. These limiting factors for the commercialization of PSCs are alleviated by synthesizing random terpolymers with components of (2‐decyltetradecyl)thiophen‐2‐yl)naphtho[1,2‐c:5,6‐c′]bis[1,2,5]thiadiazole and bithiophene substituted with methyl thiophene‐3‐carboxylate (MTC). In contrast to the temperature‐dependent PNTz4T polymer, the resulting random terpolymers (PNTz4T‐MTC) show better solubility, slightly reduced crystallinity and aggregation, and weaker intermolecular interaction, thus enabling PNTz4T‐MTC to be processed at RT from a halogen‐free solvent. Particularly, the PNTz4T‐5MTC‐based photoactive layer exhibits an excellent PCE of 9.66%, which is among the highest reported PCEs for RT and ecofriendly halogen‐free solvent processed fullerene‐based PSCs, and a thickness tolerance with a PCE exceeding 8% from 100 to 520 nm. Finally, large‐area modules fabricated with the PNTz4T and PNTz4T‐5MTC polymer have shown 4.29% and 6.61% PCE respectively, with an area as high as 54.45 cm2 in air.  相似文献

The development of nonfullerene acceptors has brought polymer solar cells into a new era. Maximizing the performance of nonfullerene solar cells needs appropriate polymer donors that match with the acceptors in both electrical and morphological properties. So far, the design rationales for polymer donors are mainly borrowed from fullerene‐based solar cells, which are not necessarily applicable to nonfullerene solar cells. In this work, the influence of side chain length of polymer donors based on a set of random terpolymers PTAZ‐TPD10‐Cn on the device performance of polymer solar cells is investigated with three different acceptor materials, i.e., a fullerene acceptor [70]PCBM, a polymer acceptor N2200, and a fused‐ring molecular acceptor ITIC. Shortening the side chains of polymer donors improves the device performance of [70]PCBM‐based devices, but deteriorates the N2200‐ and ITIC‐based devices. Morphology studies unveil that the miscibility between donor and acceptor in blend films depends on the side chain length of polymer donors. Upon shortening the side chains of the polymer donors, the miscibility between the donor and acceptor increases for the [70]PCBM‐based blends, but decreases for the N2200‐ and ITIC‐based blends. These findings provide new guidelines for the development of polymer donors to match with emerging nonfullerene acceptors.  相似文献

The record efficiency of the state‐of‐the‐art polymer solar cells (PSCs) is rapidly increasing, due to the discovery of high‐performance photoactive donor and acceptor materials. However, strong questions remain as to whether such high‐efficiency PSCs can be produced by scalable processes. This paper reports a high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 13.5% achieved with single‐junction ternary PSCs based on PTB7‐Th, PC71BM, and COi8DFIC fabricated by slot‐die coating, which shows the highest PCE ever reported in PSCs fabricated by a scalable process. To understand the origin of the high performance of the slot‐die coated device, slot‐die coated photoactive films and devices are systematically investigated. These results indicate that the good performance of the slot‐die PSCs can be due to a favorable molecule‐structure and film‐morphology change by introducing 1,8‐diiodooctane and heat treatment, which can lead to improved charge transport with reduced carrier recombination. The optimized condition is then used for the fabrication of large‐area modules and also for roll‐to‐roll fabrication. The slot‐die coated module with 30 cm2 active‐area and roll‐to‐roll produced flexible PSC has shown 8.6% and 9.6%, respectively. These efficiencies are the highest in each category and demonstrate the strong potential of the slot‐die coated ternary system for commercial applications.  相似文献

A new 2D‐conjugated medium bandgap donor–acceptor copolymer, J81 , based on benzodifuran with trialkylsilyl thiophene side chains as donor unit and fluorobenzothiazole as acceptor, is synthesized and successfully used in nonfullerene polymer solar cells (PSCs) with low bandgap n‐type organic semiconductor (n‐OS) 3,9‐bis(2‐methylene‐ (3‐(1,1‐dicyanomethylene)‐indanone)‐5,5,11,11‐tetrakis(4‐ hexylphenyl)‐dithieno[2,3‐d:2′,3′‐d′]‐s‐indaceno[1,2‐b:5,6‐b′]‐ dithiophene (ITIC) and m ‐ITIC as acceptor. J81 possesses a lower‐lying highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy level of ?5.43 eV and medium bandgap of 1.93 eV with complementary absorption in the visible–near infrared region with the n‐OS acceptor. The PSCs based on J81 :ITIC and J81 :m ‐ITIC yield high power conversion efficiency of 10.60% and 11.05%, respectively, with high V oc of 0.95–0.96 V benefit from the lower‐lying HOMO energy level of J81 donor. The work indicates that J81 is another promising polymer donor for the nonfullerene PSCs.  相似文献

The challenge of continuous printing in high‐efficiency large‐area organic solar cells is a key limiting factor for their widespread adoption. A materials design concept for achieving large‐area, solution‐coated all‐polymer bulk heterojunction solar cells with stable phase separation morphology between the donor and acceptor is presented. The key concept lies in inhibiting strong crystallization of donor and acceptor polymers, thus forming intermixed, low crystallinity, and mostly amorphous blends. Based on experiments using donors and acceptors with different degree of crystallinity, the results show that microphase separated donor and acceptor domain sizes are inversely proportional to the crystallinity of the conjugated polymers. This methodology of using low crystallinity donors and acceptors has the added benefit of forming a consistent and robust morphology that is insensitive to different processing conditions, allowing one to easily scale up the printing process from a small‐scale solution shearing coater to a large‐scale continuous roll‐to‐roll (R2R) printer. Large‐area all‐polymer solar cells are continuously roll‐to‐roll slot die printed with power conversion efficiencies of 5%, with combined cell area up to 10 cm2. This is among the highest efficiencies realized with R2R‐coated active layer organic materials on flexible substrate.  相似文献

An amino‐functionalized copolymer with a conjugated backbone composed of fluorene, naphthalene diimide, and thiophene spacers (PFN‐2TNDI) is introduced as an alternative electron transport layer (ETL) to replace the commonly used [6,6]‐Phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) in the p–i–n planar‐heterojunction organometal trihalide perovskite solar cells. A combination of characterizations including photoluminescence (PL), time‐resolved PL decay, Kelvin probe measurement, and impedance spectroscopy is used to study the interfacial effects induced by the new ETL. It is found that the amines on the polymer side chains not only can passivate the surface traps of perovskite to improve the electron extraction properties, they also can reduce the work function of the metal cathode by forming desired interfacial dipoles. With these dual functionalities, the resulted solar cells outperform those based on PCBM with power conversion efficiency (PCE) increased from 12.9% to 16.7% based on PFN‐2TNDI. In addition to the performance enhancement, it is also found that a wide range of thicknesses of the new ETL can be applied to produce high PCE devices owing to the good electron transport property of the polymer, which offers a better processing window for potential fabrication of perovskite solar cells using large‐area coating method.  相似文献

By application of thermal annealing and UV ozone simultaneously, a solution‐processed NiOx film can achieve a work function of approximately –5.1 eV at a temperature below 150 °C, which allows the processing of NiOx that is compatible with fabrication of polymer solar cells (PSCs) on plastic substrates. The low processing temperature, which is greatly reduced from 250–400 °C to 150 °C, is attributed to the high concentration of NiOOH species on the film surface. This concentration will result in a large surface dipole and lead to increased work function. The pretreated NiOx is demonstrated to be an efficient buffer layer in PSCs based on polymers with different highest occupied molecular orbital energy levels. Compared with conventional poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxy‐thiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate)‐buffered PSCs, the NiOx‐buffered PSCs achieve similar or improved device performance as well as enhanced device stability.  相似文献

A new n‐type organic semiconductor (n‐OS) acceptor IDTPC with n‐hexyl side chains is developed. Compared to side chains with 4‐hexylphenyl counterparts (IDTCN), such a design endows the acceptor of IDTPC with higher electron mobility, more ordered face‐on molecular packing, and lower band gap. Therefore, the IDTPC‐based polymer solar cells (PSCs) with a newly developed wide bandgap polymer PTQ10 as donor exhibit the maximum power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 12.2%, a near 65% improvement in PCE relative to the IDTCN‐based control device. Most importantly, the IDTPC‐based device is insensitive to the thickness of the active layer from 70 to 505 nm, which still gives a PCE of 10.0% with the active‐layer thickness of 400 nm. To the best of the authors' knowledge, a PCE of 10.0% is the highest value for the nonfullerene PSCs with an active layer thicker than 400 nm. These results reveal that the blend of PTQ10 and IDTPC exhibits great potential for highly efficient nonfullerene PSCs and large‐area device fabrication.  相似文献

Highly crystalline conjugated polymers represent a key material for producing high‐performance thick‐active‐layer polymer solar cells (PSCs). However, despite their potential, a limited number of crystalline polymers are used in PSCs because of the lack of highly coplanar acceptor building blocks and insufficient light absorptivity (α < 105) of most donor (D)–acceptor (A)‐type polymers. This study reports a series of novel 3,7‐di(thiophen‐2‐yl)‐1,5‐naphthyridine‐2,6‐dione (NTDT) acceptor‐based conjugated polymers, PNTDT‐2T, PNTDT‐TT, and PNTDT‐2F2T, synthesized with 2,2′‐bithiophene (2T), thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene (TT), and 3,3′‐difluoro‐2,2′‐bithiophene (2F2T) donor units, respectively. PNTDT‐2F2T exhibits superior polymer crystallinity and a much higher absorption coefficient than those of PNTDT‐2T or PNTDT‐TT because of adequate matching between highly coplanar A (NTDT) and D (2F2T) building blocks. A bulk heterojunction solar cell based on PNTDT‐2F2T exhibits a power conversion efficiency of up to 9.63%, with a high short circuit current of 18.80 mA cm?2 and fill factor of 0.70, when a thick active layer (>200 nm) is used, without postfabrication hot processing. The findings demonstrate that the polymer crystallinity and absorption coefficient can be effectively controlled by selecting appropriate D and A building blocks, and that NTDT is a novel and versatile A building block for highly efficient thick‐active‐layer PSCs.  相似文献

In this work, the detailed morphology studies of polymer poly(3‐hexylthiophene‐2,5‐diyl) (P3HT):fullerene(PCBM) and polymer(P3HT):polymer naphthalene diimide thiophene (PNDIT) solar cell are presented to understand the challenge for getting high performance all‐polymer solar cells. The in situ X‐ray scattering and optical interferometry and ex situ hard and soft X‐ray scattering and imaging techniques are used to characterize the bulk heterojunction (BHJ) ink during drying and in dried state. The crystallization of P3HT polymers in P3HT:PCBM bulk heterojunction shows very different behavior compared to that of P3HT:PNDIT BHJ due to different mobilities of P3HT in the donor:acceptor glass. Supplemented by the ex situ grazing incidence X‐ray diffraction and soft X‐ray scattering, PNDIT has a lower tendency to form a mixed phase with P3HT than PCBM, which may be the key to inhibit the donor polymer crystallization process, thus creating preferred small phase separation between the donor and acceptor polymer.  相似文献

Most optimized donor‐acceptor (D‐A) polymer bulk heterojunction (BHJ) solar cells have active layers too thin to absorb greater than ~80% of incident photons with energies above the polymer's band gap. If the thickness of these devices could be increased without sacrificing internal quantum efficiency, the device power conversion efficiency (PCE) could be significantly enhanced. We examine the device characteristics of BHJ solar cells based on poly(di(2‐ethylhexyloxy)benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene‐co‐octylthieno[3,4‐c]pyrrole‐4,6‐dione) (PBDTTPD) and [6,6]‐phenyl‐C61‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) with 7.3% PCE and find that bimolecular recombination limits the active layer thickness of these devices. Thermal annealing does not mitigate these bimolecular recombination losses and drastically decreases the PCE of PBDTTPD BHJ solar cells. We characterize the morphology of these BHJs before and after thermal annealing and determine that thermal annealing drastically reduces the concentration of PCBM in the mixed regions, which consist of PCBM dispersed in the amorphous portions of PBDTTPD. Decreasing the concentration of PCBM may reduce the number of percolating electron transport pathways within these mixed regions and create morphological electron traps that enhance charge‐carrier recombination and limit device quantum efficiency. These findings suggest that (i) the concentration of PCBM in the mixed regions of polymer BHJs must be above the PCBM percolation threshold in order to attain high solar cell internal quantum efficiency, and (ii) novel processing techniques, which improve polymer hole mobility while maintaining PCBM percolation within the mixed regions, should be developed in order to limit bimolecular recombination losses in optically thick devices and maximize the PCE of polymer BHJ solar cells.  相似文献

Despite the potential of ternary polymer solar cells (PSCs) to improve photocurrents, ternary architecture is not widely utilized for PSCs because its application has been shown to reduce fill factor (FF). In this paper, a novel technique is reported for achieving highly efficient ternary PSCs without this characteristic sharp decrease in FF by matching the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) energy levels of two donor polymers. Our ternary device—made from a blend of wide‐bandgap poly[4,8‐bis(2‐ethylhexyloxy)benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene‐alt‐2,5‐dioctyl‐4,6‐di(thiophen‐2‐yl)pyrrolo[3,4‐c]pyrrole‐1,3(2H,5H)‐dione) (PBDT‐DPPD) polymer, narrow‐bandgap poly[4,8‐bis[5‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐2‐thienyl]benzo[1,2‐b:4,5‐b′]dithiophene‐alt‐(4‐(2‐ethylhexyl)‐3‐fluorothieno[3,4‐b]thiophene‐)‐2‐carboxylate‐2‐ 6‐diyl)] (PTB7‐Th) polymer, and [6,6]‐phenyl C70‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC70BM)—exhibits a maximum power conversion efficiency of 10.42% with an open‐circuit voltage of 0.80 V, a short‐circuit current of 17.61 mA cm?2, and an FF of 0.74. In addition, this concept is extended to quaternary PSCs made by using three different donor polymers with similar HOMO levels. Interestingly, the quaternary PSCs also yield a good FF (≈0.70)—similar to those of corresponding binary PSCs. This study confirms that the HOMO levels of the polymers used on the photoactive layer of PSCs are a crucial determinant of a high FF.  相似文献

Two novel narrow bandgap π‐conjugated polymers based on naphtho[1,2‐c:5,6‐c′]bis([1,2,5]thiadiazole) (NT) unit are developed, which contain the thiophene or benzodithiophene flanked with alkylthiophene as the electron‐donating segment. Both copolymers exhibit strong aggregations both in solution and as thin films. The resulting copolymers with higher molecular weight show higher photovoltaic performance by virtue of the enhanced short‐circuit current densities and fill factors, which can be attributed to their higher absorptivity and formation of more favorable film morphologies. Polymer solar cells (PSCs) fabricated with the copolymer PNTT achieve remarkable power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) > 11% based on both conventional and inverted structures at the photoactive layer thickness of 280 nm, which is the highest value so far observed from NT‐based copolymers. Of particular interest is that the device performances are insensitive to the thickness of the photoactive layer, for which the PCEs > 10% can be achieved with film thickness ranging from 150 to 660 nm, and the PCE remains >9% at the thickness over 1 µm. These findings demonstrate that these NT‐based copolymers can be promising candidates for the construction of thick film PSCs toward low‐cost roll‐to‐roll processing technology.  相似文献

A new weak electron‐deficient building block, bis(2‐ethylhexyl) 2,5‐bis(5‐bromothiophen‐2‐yl) thieno[3,2‐b]thiophene‐3,6‐dicarboxylate ( TT‐Th ), is incorporated to construct a wide‐bandgap (1.88 eV) polymer PBDT‐TT for nonfullerene polymer solar cells (NF‐PSCs). PBDT‐TT possesses suitable energy levels and complementary absorption when blended with both ITIC analogues ( ITIC and IT‐M ) and a near‐infrared (NIR) acceptor ( 6TIC ). Moreover, PBDT‐TT exhibits good conjugated planarity and preferable face‐on orientation in the blended thin film, which are beneficial for charge transfer and carrier transport. The PSCs based on PBDT‐TT : IT‐M and PBDT‐TT : 6TIC blend films yield high power conversion efficiencies of 11.38% and 11.03%, respectively. To the best of the authors' knowledge, the PCE of 11.03% for PBDT‐TT : 6TIC‐ based device is one of the highest values reported for NIR NF‐PSCs. This work demonstrates that TT‐Th is a useful new electron‐accepting building block for making p‐type wide bandgap polymers for efficient NIR NF‐PSCs.  相似文献

The device performance of polymer solar cells (PSCs) is strongly dependent on the blend morphology. One of the strategies for improving PSC performance is side‐chain engineering, which plays an important role in controlling the aggregation properties of the polymers and thus the domain crystallinity/purity of the donor–acceptor blends. In particular, for a family of high‐performance donor polymers with strong temperature‐dependent aggregation properties, the device performances are very sensitive to the size of alkyl chains, and the best device performance can only be achieved with an optimized odd‐numbered alkyl chain. However, the synthetic route of odd‐numbered alkyl chains is costly and complicated, which makes it difficult for large‐scale synthesis. Here, this study presents a facile method to optimize the aggregation properties and blend morphology by employing donor polymers with a mixture of two even‐numbered, randomly distributed alkyl chains. In a model polymer system, this study suggests that the structural and electronic properties of the random polymers comprising a mixture of 2‐octyldodecyl and 2‐decyltetradecyl alkyl chains can be systematically tuned by varying the mixing ratio, and a high power conversion efficiency (11.1%) can be achieved. This approach promotes the scalability of donor polymers and thus facilitates the commercialization of PSCs.  相似文献

Significantly increased power conversion efficiency (PCE) of polymer solar cells (PSCs) is achieved by applying a plasmonic enhanced light trapping strategy to a low bandgap conjugated polymer, poly(indacenodithiophene‐ co‐phananthrene‐quinoxaline) (PIDT‐PhanQ) and [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester (PC71BM) based bulk‐heterojunction (BHJ) system. By doping both the rear and front charge‐selecting interfacial layers of the device with different sizes of Au NPs, the PCE of the devices is improved from 6.65% to 7.50% (13% enhancement). A detailed study of processing, characterization, microscopy, and device fabrication is conducted to understand the underlying mechanism for the enhanced device performance. The success of this work provides a simple and generally applicable approach to enhance light harnessing of low bandgap polymers in PSCs.  相似文献

Despite rapid advances in the field of nonfullerene polymer solar cells (NF‐PSCs), successful examples of random polymer‐based NF‐PSCs are limited. In this study, it is demonstrated that random donor polymers based on thieno[2′,3′:5′,6′]pyrido[3,4‐g ]thieno[3,2‐c ]isoquinoline‐5,11(4H ,10H )‐dione (TPTI) containing two simple thiophene (T) and bithiophene (2T) electron‐rich moieties (PTTI‐Tx ) can be promising materials for the fabrication of highly efficient NF‐PSCs. With negligible influence on optical bandgaps and energy levels, the crystalline behavior of PTTI‐Tx polymers was modulated by varying the T:2T ratio in the polymer backbone; this resulted in the formation of different microstructures upon blending with a nonfullerene m ‐ITIC acceptor in NF‐PSCs. In particular, a PTPTI‐T70:m ‐ITIC system enabled favorable small‐scale phase separation with an increased population of face‐on oriented crystallites, thereby boosting the processes of effective exciton dissociation and charge transport in the device. Consequently, the highest power conversion efficiency of 11.02% with an enhanced short‐circuit current density of 17.12 mA cm?2 is achieved for the random polymer‐based NF‐PSCs thus far. These results indicate that random terpolymerization is a simple and practical approach for the optimization of a donor polymer toward highly efficient NF‐PSCs.  相似文献

The systematic insertion of thin films of P3HT and PCBM at the electron‐ and hole‐collecting interfaces, respectively, in bulk‐heterojunction polymer solar cells results in different extents of reduction in device characteristics, with the insertion of P3HT at the electron‐collecting interface being less disruptive to the output currents compared to the insertion of PCBM at the hole‐collecting interface. This asymmetry is attributed to differences in the tail state‐assisted charge injection and recombination at the active layer‐electrode interfaces. P3HT exhibits a higher density of tail states compared to PCBM; holes in these tail states can thus easily recombine with electrons at the electron‐collection interface during device operation. This process is subsequently compensated by the injection of holes from the cathode into these tail states, which collectively enables net current flow through the polymer solar cell. The study presented herein thus provides a plausible explanation for why preferential segregation of P3HT to the cathode interface is inconsequential to device characteristics in P3HT:PCBM bulk‐heterojunction solar cells.  相似文献

To realize high power conversion efficiencies (PCEs) in green‐solvent‐processed all‐polymer solar cells (All‐PSCs), a long alkyl chain modified perylene diimide (PDI)‐based polymer acceptor PPDIODT with superior solubility in nonhalogenated solvents is synthesized. A properly matched PBDT‐TS1 is selected as the polymer donor due to the red‐shifted light absorption and low‐lying energy level in order to achieve the complementary absorption spectrum and matched energy level between polymer donor and polymer acceptor. By utilizing anisole as the processing solvent, an optimal efficiency of 5.43% is realized in PBDT‐TS1/PPDIODT‐based All‐PSC with conventional configuration, which is comparable with that of All‐PSCs processed by the widely used binary solvent. Due to the utilization of an inverted device configuration, the PCE is further increased to over 6.5% efficiency. Notably, the best‐performing PCE of 6.58% is the highest value for All‐PSCs employing PDI‐based polymer acceptors and green‐solvent‐processed All‐PSCs. The excellent photovoltaic performance is mainly attributed to a favorable vertical phase distribution, a higher exciton dissociation efficiency (Pdiss) in the blend film, and a higher electrode carrier collection efficiency. Overall, the combination of rational molecular designing, material selection, and device engineering will motivate the efficiency breakthrough in green‐solvent‐processed All‐PSCs.  相似文献

A new semiconducting polymer based on terthiophene‐thienopyrrolodione alternating building blocks with a deep HOMO energy level (5.66 eV) is presented. The polymer is prepared by a direct heteroarylation polycondensation reaction, which is a low‐cost and green alternative to the standard Stille coupling reaction and thus avoids any use of toxic stannyl derivatives. Integrating the polymer into bulk heterojunction solar cells with [6,6]‐phenyl C71‐butyric acid methyl ester ([70]PCBM) leads to a PCE of over 6% and a high open‐circuit voltage of up to 0.94 V. To obtain these results a unique processing additive, 1‐chloronaphthalene, is used, and a relatively low concentration of [70]PCBM is used in the blend solution.  相似文献
