A new lycopsid family Kladnostrobaceae is proposed, based on the type of sporangia, their attachment by a pedicel and the type of reticulate spores enclosed. All these characteristics distinguish the Kladnostrobaceae from all other lycopsid families. A new lycopsid genus Kladnostrobus nov. gen., consisting of two new species Kladnostrobus clealii nov. sp. and Kladnostrobus psendae nov. sp., is described from the Kladno-Rakovník Basin (Lower Bolsovian) of the central and western Carboniferous continental basins of the Czech Republic. Helically arranged distal laminae and pedicels are relatively primitive, suggesting that Kladnostrobus may represent a new, primitive type of lycopsid cone produced by some unknown, probably arborescent lycopsid parent plant. Spores of Kladnostrobus are about 90-100 μm in diameter, and possess reticulate sculpture. The proximal contact area of spores is laevigate. In situ spores can resemble some dispersed species of the genera Convolutispora Hoffmeister, Staplin and Malloy, Camptotriletes (Naumova) Potonié and Kremp, Reticulatisporites (Ibrahim) Neves and mainly Dictyotriletes (Naumova) Smith and Buttterworth.  相似文献

Two species ofStereum are discussed. One,S. macrocystidiatum from Java, is described as new; the other,S. illudens Berk., is redescribed from Mexico-Guatemala collections. Study of this material leads to the conclusion thatXylobolus Karst. emend. Boidin cannot be maintained as distinct fromStereum Hill ex S. F. Gray. Subgeneric distinctions between these two groups of species are also rejected.  相似文献

A new species of male gymnosperm reproductive organs, Permotheca colovratica sp. nov. from the upper part of the Kungurian Stage (Lower Permian, Irenian Horizon, Koshelevskian Formation) of the Middle Cis-Urals and from the Kazanian Stage of the southern Cis-Urals and Volga River Basin, is described. These organs are rosette-like synangiate aggregations of microsporangia consisting of four sporangia fused at their bases. The adaxial surface of the synangia has a disc of attachment. The in situ pollen grains are of Falcisporites type. The morphologically similar genera Falcisporites Leshik emend. Klaus, Alisporites Daugherty emend. Nilsson, and Vesicaspora Shemel emend. Wilson et Venkatachala are analyzed. The morphogenetic trend in the evolution of the androphores Permotheca is discussed.  相似文献

Minostrobus chaohuensis Wang was previously known only as a lycopsid megasporangiate strobilus from the Upper Devonian of Anhui Province, South China. Our comprehensive study of the newly collected materials reveals the details of its morphology, anatomy, and reproduction, which allow us to emend its generic and specific diagnoses. M. chaohuensis is reconstructed as a plant with multi-dichotomous branching system, helically arranged leaves, and monoecious and monosporangiate strobili (i.e., separate megasporangiate and microsporangiate strobili in one individual). The anatomy of both fertile and sterile portions of Minostrobus indicates that the exarch primary xylem strand is the solid protostele, with the peripheral protoxylem ridges and Williamson's striations in metaxylem tracheids. The key reproductive and anatomical characters suggest that Minostrobus chaohuensis is far more likely to represent a distal shoot of pseudo-herbaceous or arborescent lycopsids within the order Isoëtales sensu lato. It is suggested that the monosporangiate-strobilus clade in the Isoëtales may include primitive, monoecious taxa in the Late Devonian and advanced, dioecious ones in the Carboniferous. The hypothesis that the more phylogenetically advanced monosporangiate-strobilus clade might have well diverged from the basal bisporangiate-strobilus clade of arborescent lycopsids by the Late Devonian is further supported.  相似文献

Nearly 60 compression fossils of the vegetative stems and fertile zones of Spencerites (Scott) emend. are described from the Bolsovian of the Kladno-Rakovník and Radnice basins in the Czech Republic. Spencerites is re-interpreted as a pseudoherbaceous, repeatedly (minimum three times) dichotomously-branching, lycopsid with fertile apical zones. Vegetative stems are described for the first time. Two new species are proposed: Spencerites havlenae and Spencerites chaloneri. They are generally similar morphologically, and can be distinguished mainly by their isospores. Spencerisporites radiatus Felix and Parks, 1959 emend. isospores were isolated from Spencerites havlenae and Spencerisporites striatus sp. nov. from Spencerites chaloneri. Emendations are proposed for the generic diagnoses of Spencerites and Spencerisporites, and the specific diagnosis of Spencerisporites radiatus.  相似文献

A new genus, Falsocalcifolium is described. The type species is F. punctatum (Maslov) emend. The genus is placed in the tribe Calcifolieae Shuysky emend. of the family Calcifoliaceae Termier, Termier and Vachard nomen translat. Consequently, the generic make-up of the tribe is emended, and is now considered to be composed of Frustulata Saltovskaya emend., Falsocalcifolium nov. gen., and Calcifolium Shvetsov and Birina emend. Evolution within the tribe is shown by the progressive development of more petaloid morphologies and changes in the number and relationships of the internal structures called filaments (interpreted here as the emplacements containing endosymbiotic cyanobacteria). This evolution is also related to palaeoecological factors. The representatives of the tribe are considered excellent biostratigraphic markers in several western Tethyan regions (e.g. Great Britain, Ireland, southern France, southern Spain), where they are widely represented, but their geographical distribution in other basins seems to be incomplete, and thus their use in biostratigraphic correlation is at the moment limited.  相似文献

Echinochara Peck, 1957 is a poorly known charophyte genus from the Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous of the United States and Europe. Its fossil record is currently limited to two species, Echinochara spinosa Peck, 1957 and Echinochara peckii (Mädler, 1952) nov. comb. Grambast, 1956 emend. Schudack, 1993, which have obscure phylogenetic relationships. A third species of this genus, Echinochara triplicata nov. sp., is described here from the Lower Albian of Jebel Koumine (Central Tunisia) and is hypothesized to derive from the Barremian-Aptian morphotypes of Echinochara peckii. The new species represents the first record of the genus in Africa and its more recent record worldwide. It occurs along with the clavatoraceans: Clavator harrisii zavialensis and Atopochara trivolvis trivolvis and provides an additional tool for the biostratigraphic characterization of non-marine Albian of Europe and North Africa.  相似文献

Background and Aims

The effect of environmental factors on the regulation of aerenchyma formation in rice roots has been discussed for a long time, because aerenchyma is constitutively formed under aerated conditions. To elucidate this problem, a unique method has been developed that enables sensitive detection of differences in the development of aerenchyma under two different environmental conditions. The method is tested to determine whether aerenchyma development in rice roots is affected by osmotic stress.

Methods

To examine aerenchyma formation both with and without mannitol treatment in the same root, germinating rice (Oryza sativa) caryopses were sandwiched between two agar slabs, one of which contained 270 mm of mannitol. The roots were grown touching both slabs and were thereby exposed unilaterally to osmotic stress. As a non-invasive approach, refraction contrast X-ray computed tomography (CT) using a third-generation synchrotron facility, SPring-8 (Super photon ring 8 GeV, Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute), was used to visualize the three-dimensional (3-D) intact structure of aerenchyma and its formation in situ in rice roots. The effects of unilateral mannitol treatment on the development of aerenchyma were quantitatively examined using conventional light microscopy.

Key Results

Structural continuity of aerenchyma was clearly visualized in 3-D in the primary root of rice and in situ using X-ray CT. Light microscopy and X-ray CT showed that the development of aerenchyma was promoted on the mannitol-treated side of the root. Detailed light microscopic analysis of cross-sections cut along the root axis from the tip to the basal region demonstrated that aerenchyma developed significantly closer to the root tip on the mannitol-treated side of the root.

Conclusions

Continuity of the aerenchyma along the rice root axis was morphologically demonstrated using X-ray CT. By using this ‘sandwich’ method it was shown that mannitol promoted aerenchyma formation in the primary roots of rice.  相似文献

Whereas Middle Jurassic gastropods are very well known in Europe and other regions of the world, these faunas have been much less studied from northern Africa and most contributions available in literature have been based on relatively well-preserved material. Except a little lower Bajocian fauna from the Central High Atlas (Morocco) described at the turn of the 21th century, nothing is known about the Middle Jurassic gastropods of the southwestern Tethyan margin. The present paper aims to update the systematics of two vetigastropod species: Obornella cf. granulata (Sowerby, 1818) and Ambercyclus ornatus (Sowerby, 1819) recently found in the upper Bajocian succession of the Ksour Mountains (Tniet el Klakh Formation) at western Saharan Atlas (northern Algeria). The new Ambercyclus material found in well-preserved conditions confirms the absence of umbilicus in Ambercyclus; thus, we emend the original generic diagnosis. The specimens of Obornella cf. granulata and Ambercyclus ornatus represent the first occurrence of both genera and species in the upper Bajocian marine deposits of the western Saharan Atlas, and provide new taxonomic and palaeobiogeographic information about Middle Jurassic vetigastropods in Algeria.  相似文献

The teosinte Zea nicaraguensis, a wild relative of maize, possesses a flooding tolerance-related trait: the formation of constitutive root aerenchyma under drained (non-flooded) soil conditions. A previous study suggested that the degree of constitutive aerenchyma formation varies within Z. nicaraguensis. The objectives of this study were to construct linkage maps, to determine the marker order in a region of chromosome 4 in which recombination between maize and Z. nicaraguensis is suppressed, and to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) controlling constitutive root aerenchyma formation in two segregating populations of Z. nicaraguensis. A total of 236 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were screened for polymorphism in an S1 population of Z. nicaraguensis. Seventy-one polymorphic SSR markers were assigned to 10 chromosomes, and a linkage map was constructed covering 793.5 cM. In the S1 map, a paracentric inversion was detected on the long arm of chromosome 4; this rearrangement was confirmed in an S1 linkage map of a different Z. nicaraguensis accession. Composite interval mapping analysis in 96 S1 plants revealed QTL for aerenchyma formation on chromosomes 1 (bins 1.06–1.07) and 7 (bin 7.01), explaining 17 and 12% of the total phenotypic variance, respectively. The QTL on chromosome 1 was verified by using 156 S2 plants. Near-isogenic lines exhibiting the presence or absence of the aerenchyma QTL have been developed that should be useful for genetic and physiological analyses of root aerenchyma formation.  相似文献

Fossil remains of Taxodium from upper Eocene to lower Miocene localities in Germany, the Czech Republic and Russia are investigated to reconsider taxonomic concepts. It is demonstrated that all material belongs to one species which is named Taxodium dubium (Sternberg) Heer emend. Using the whole-plant concept, T. dubium is considered as a synthetic species comprising foliage, seed cones, seeds, and male cones with pollen in situ. Shared identity of T. dubium and the wood morpho-taxon Taxodioxylon taxodii Gothan is assumed. Taxodium dubium underwent evolutionary changes through the Oligocene expressed mainly in changes of the cone scale ornamentation. To designate this intraspecific variation taxonomically two morpho-formae are distinguished: T. dubium forma heerii (Dorofeev) Kunzmann, Kva?ek, Mai et Walther stat. nov. et emend. and T. dubium forma dubium. Simultaneous intraspecific variations in leaf morphology and leaf epidermal anatomy are missing. Taxodium dubium occurs from the late Eocene to late Miocene in the (Atlantic-) Boreal province sensu Mai of Central Europe and from the late Oligocene to late Pliocene in the Transeuropean Paratethys province sensu Mai.  相似文献

Sinoeuthemis daohugouensis gen. et sp. n. is the first record of the isophlebiopteran family Euthemistidae from Middle Jurassic of northeast China, while previously this family was restricted to the early Late Jurassic Kazakhstan. This new finding allows us to emend the family diagnosis with hindwing characters. This new species shows a mixture of characters alternatively present in different genera of the two families Euthemistidae and Sphenophlebiidae.  相似文献

A heterosporous lycopsid plant is described from the Upper Devonian (Famennian) Wutong Formation, Changxing County, northern Zhejiang Province, China. The plant is known for its terminal and many detached megasporangiate strobili, most of which do not have sporophylls preserved. Some megasporangiate strobili are closely associated with a vegetative axis bearing leaf cushions and with a mass of microspores. Because of the monosporangiate strobili, the present lycopsid belongs to the Dichostrobiles of the Isoёtales sensu lato. This lycopsid conforms to Changxingia in the vegetative leaves, leaf cushions (including leaf scar and ligule pit), some parts of the megasporophyll (pedicel, heel and lamina), the megasporangium and the megaspores, although the branching pattern of axes, the arrangement and other parts of megasporophyll are still unknown. The fossils are described as Changxingia sp., and this genus is expanded with character of microspore. Hence, the previous and present data indicate that the earliest lycopsids with monosporangiate strobili from the Upper Devonian of China are consistent in Lagenicula megaspores with gula and Lycospora microspores with equatorial cingulum. In contrast, the Carboniferous lycopsids with monosporangiate strobili in Euramerica and Cathaysia show great diversification of both megaspores and microspores.  相似文献

The sedge-feeding moth Bactra verutana Zeller, 1875 (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae: Olethreutinae: Bactrini), described from Dallas, Texas, USA, is widespread, recorded throughout much North America, Central and South America, including the Caribbean, and Africa. The species is recorded for the first time from Chile based on specimens collected in the coastal valleys of the Atacama Desert, where its larvae feed on Cyperus corymbosus Rottb. var. subnodosus (Nees & Meyen) Kük. (Cyperaceae). A single DNA barcode haplotype, which is widespread in USA, was found in two Chilean specimens sequenced.  相似文献

In the late 1960s, rests of a low-diversity flora dominated by the lycopsid Pleuromeia were reported. The specimens were recovered from a creek near San Rafael, Mendoza Province, western Argentina, in the lower section of the Puesto Viejo Group, the Quebrada de los Fósiles Formation, considered as Early Triassic in age. Despite the importance of this flora with respect to the end-Permian mass extinction event, it was not yet described nor illustrated. Since then, the age of the Puesto Viejo Group has been revised and the Quebrada de los Fósiles Formation is now considered to be early Middle Triassic. The fossil plants are here first described and interpreted. The most common element, Pleuromeia cf. sternbergii, a species known worldwide that characterizes the post-extinction flora recovery, is accompanied by sphenopsids such as Neocalamites and Equisetostachys, and an herbaceous lycopsid. This community grew up associated with transient water bodies in flood plain environments that developed under warm temperate, strongly seasonal climatic conditions. The landscape was stressed by volcanism, and the conjunction of these factors probably restricted the colonization and development of a full ecosystem, as happened worldwide after the end-Permian mass extinction.  相似文献

Two new species of yellow-shouldered bats Sturnira Gray, 1842 (Chiroptera, Phyllostomidae) from Central America and western South America are described using molecular and morphological data. The two new species, which occur in Costa Rica and Panama and in western Ecuador, were previously confused with S. ludovici, and S. lilium and S. luisi, respectively. Sturnira now includes 22 described species, making it the most speciose genus in the Neotropical family Phyllostomidae.  相似文献

Assemblages of Lower-Middle Cretaceous dinoflagellate cysts are described from the sediments of India for the first time. They were obtained from subsurface sediments of Periyavadavadi Shallow well-1, Cauvery basin. Twenty-seven morphotypes, belonging to at least eighteen genera, occur in these sediments, the majority showing close morphological comparability with taxa described earlier from Australia and Europe. One new subspecies, Cyclonephelium distinctum subsp. laevigatum, is proposed; other new taxa are described but, since meagrely represented, are not named. The generic diagnosis of Aprobolocysta Duxbury, 1977 emend. Duxbury, 1980, is again revised. The assemblages, along with evidence from spores and pollen published earlier by Venkatachala & Sharma (1974), indicate a Valanginian to Aptian age for the sediments studied.  相似文献
