The effect of sulphydryl compounds on the induction of alkali-labile sites and on the contribution of such sites to the inactivation of single-stranded phi X174 DNA was studied. Cysteamine is capable of reacting with DNA radicals, thereby modifying the radiation damage in such a way that the induction of immediate and latent breaks is reduced. This depends on the pH of the solution. With cysteine only, a pH dependent protection, against lethal alkali-labile potential breaks could be observed. The damage other than breaks is not influenced by the presence of sulphydryl compounds.  相似文献

Plants of 76 species from 25 families growing in the forest-steppe zone of West Siberia are analyzed for the content of low-molecular biologically active compounds, such as flavonoids, tannins, catechins, coumarins, saponins, and alkaloids. It is established that 33 species hold promise as a source of flavonoids, 29 species tannins, 21 coumarins, 13 saponins, 13 alkaloids, and 1 catechins.  相似文献

Background: Lonicera caerulea L. (blueberry honeysuckle, Caprifoliaceae) is a traditional crop in northern Russia, China, and Japan. Its fruits are little known as edible berries in North America and Europe. This review deals with the botany and chemical composition of L. caerulea and the biological activity of its main constituents, focusing on the potential health benefits of the berries. Methods and Results: PubMed, Science Direct and ISI Web of Knowledge(SM) databases were used for this paper. Literature sources include the period 1935-2007. L. caerulea berries a are rich source of phenolic compounds such as phenolic acids as well as anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins and other flavonoids, which display potential health promoting effects. Chemopreventive, antimicrobial, anti-adherence and antioxidant benefits, among others are described for these compounds. Conclusions: The potential of L. caerulea berries to prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases and cancer seems to be related above all to their phenolic content.  相似文献

The regulatory function of a DNA fragment responsible for actinomycin resistance in the typed strain Streptomyces werraensis ATCC 1365, which produces a macrotetrolide antibiotic, was studied. Litsea spp of Laural family are traditionally used as herbal medicine for treating inflammation including gastroenterologia, oedemaand rheumatic arthritis. Therefore, it is of interest to investigate and understand the molecular principles for such actions. Here, wehave illustrated the binding of thirteen Litsea derived biologically active compounds against the inflammation associated targetCOX (cyclo-oxygenase) -2 enzymes. We compared the binding information of these compounds with a selected number of alreadyknown COX-2 inhibitors. The comparison reflected that some of these compounds such as linderol, catechin, 6''-hydroxy-2'',3'',4'' -trimethoxy-chalcone and litseaone have better or equivalent binding features compared to already known inhibitory compoundsnamely celecoxib, acetylsalicylic acid, rofecoxib. Therefore, all these small compounds reported from plant Litsea spp were found topossess potential medicinal values with anti-inflammatory properties.  相似文献

DNA liquid crystals forming in water-salt solutions containing polyethylene glycol were used as a system for testing consequences of reactions of antitumor compounds belonging to two different groups with molecules of nucleic acids. It was found that with due account of the level of DNA molecule filling with daunorubicin it was possible to form two cholester phases characterized by the textures of "finger prints" and CD spectra with intensive bands of unlike signs, as well as the nematic phase characterized by the texture of the "black twisted fiber" system and the absence of the CD spectrum intensive band. Modification of the DNA molecules resulting from the reaction with cysdichlorodiamine platinum (II) led to formation of a new liquid crystalline phase with properties differing from those of the liquid crystalline phases of the cholester or nematic type.  相似文献

Uncoupling proteins: the issues from a biochemist point of view   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11  
The functional characteristics of uncoupling proteins (UCP) are reviewed, with the main focus on the results with isolated and reconstituted proteins. UCP1 from brown adipose tissue, the paradigm of the UCP subfamily, is treated in more detail. The issues addressed are the role and mechanism of fatty acids, the nucleotide binding, the regulation by pH and the identification by mutagenesis of residues involved in these functions. The transport and regulatory functions of UCP2 and 3 are reviewed in comparison to UCP1. The inconsistencies of a proposed nucleotide insensitive H(+) transport by these UCPs as concluded from the expression in yeast and Escherichia coli are elucidated. In both expression system UCP 2 and 3 are not in or cannot be converted to a functionally native state and thus also for these UCPs a nucleotide regulated H (+) transport is postulated.  相似文献
