Release of periplasmic enzymes from Escherichia coli by penicillin-ethylenediaminetetraacetate treatment. |

| Abstract: | When Escherichia coli cells are converted into spheroplasts by penicillin treatment, none of the periplasmic enzymes is released. However, incubation of the penicillin-induced spheroplasts in a medium containing ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid caused the release of endonuclease I and cyclic phosphodiesterase but not of beta-galactosidase. |
