| Abstract: | The structure of the capsular polysaccharide elaborated by Streptococcus pneumonia type 37 has been investigated; methylation analysis, Smith degradation, and n.m.r. spectroscopy were the principal methods used. It is concluded that the polysaccharide is composed of disaccharide repeating-units having the following structure. This comb-like structure is very crowded, which influences the n.m.r. spectra of the polysaccharide. |
