Abstract:In order to reveal the relationship between respiration and abscission and the action mode of GA_3 in inducing abscission, the influences of GA_3 and two respiratory inhibitors, alone or in combination, on the abscission and respiration of explant of Euonymus japonica Thumb. stem segment were investigated. The results of present investigations proved that the effect of GA_3-promoting abscission came from the first few hours of treatment. The predominance of alternative route accelerated the abscission process, while the prevalence of cytochrome pathway delayed it. GA_3 increased the operating proportion of alternative route, but it decreased the operating proportion of cytochrorne pathway, therefore, the abscission of explants was enhanced by GA_3.
