Analysis and Suggestions of the Reasons for Cancellation of Inpatient-elective Surgery
Abstract:
Objective To explore real causes of surgical cancellation in a large size tertiary hospital to explore relevant strategies to reduce surgery cancellations. MethodsFrom November 1 2014 to January 31, 2015, collecting the reasons for cancellation of inpatient-elective surgery in a large size tertiary hospital through two manners: recorded by surgeon and verified by face to face.Results 13 371 cases were scheduled for elective surgical procedures of inpatients in the study period. 2 224 cases (16.15%) of these were cancelled. Reasons for cancellation of elective operations about verified-data were analyzed: staff-related factors (44.11%), patient-related factors (30.94%) and hospital-related factors (24.95%). Conclusion Staff-related factors are the most commonest and avoidable which are based on analysis of true data.
