Abstract: | SYNOPSIS. Regeneration of walking legs in the fiddler crab Ucapugilator is most efficient when it follows autotomy (the reflexiveloss of a limb). Closure of the wound and would healing occurimmediately following autotomy and visible regeneration beginswithin a few days. Regeneration of the walking leg occurs intwo distinct stages: The first stage, called Basal Growth, involvesmitosis and differentiation. The second stage involves primarilyprotein synthesis and water uptake and is called ProecdysialGrowth. Proecdysial Growth is, in part, under direct hormonalstimulation. |
