Abstract: | A number of neurodegenerative disorders have been attributed to abberrations of intracellular Ca2+ homeostasis regulated by Ca2+-binding proteins. This chapter will focus on the S100B and S100A6 proteins, which are highly expressed in the central nervous system. Their protein structures, localizations, and association with brain pathology as well as their potential use in clinical diagnostics will be discussed. |
