Abstract:Totally 107 amphibian and reptilian species have been recorded from Xianggang Special Administrative District (Hong Kong) of China. An update checklist of Hong Kong amphibians and reptiles is given as Table 1. Among which 23 amphibian and 75 reptilian species are living on land or in fresh - water. Based on 98 termstrial and fresh - water species, the species density of Hong Kong is 897.4/104km2, which is 123 times of that of Guangdong and 22 blues of that of Hainan. The fauna of Hong Kong is banly composed of southem Chinese (34.7%), Indo-Chinese (22.4%) and Indo-Malayan (20.4%)elements etc., as shown in Table 2. There only four (4.1% ) species are endemic. In comparison with Chinese southeastern coasl provinces or autonomous region(Table 3), Hong Kong has high biotic resemblance value with Guangdong (0. 68),Hainan (0. 59), Fujian (0. 56), and Guangh(0.49). hegeopophically, Hong Kong belongs to Southeastern Coast Subregion (= Fujian - Guangdong Coast Subregion in Zhao and Adler, 1993) of South China Region. Hong Kong specimens of four amphibians (Paramesotriton hongkongensis, Megophrys brachykolor, Amolops hongkongensis, and Philautus romeri) and four snakes(Cylsndrophis ruffus, Enhydris bennetti, Opisthotropis andersonii, and Opisthetropis laeralis) were examined by the author. Brief morphological features of those species are provided. Two lizards, validity of Dibamus boadeki and status of Riopa bowringu, are discussed in the Chinese text. The author would express his sincere thanks to Senckederg Museum, Frankfurt am Main, Germany; Zoologiches Forschungsinstitut und Museum Alexander Koenig, Bonn, Germany; Museum of Comparative Zoology, Cambridge, USA; Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, USA; and American Museum of Natural History, New York, USA for permitting to examine Hong Kong specimens. Thanks also ic confessor Kraig Adler of Corned University for kindly providing literature and information.
