Abstract:Auditory perception includes multiple cognitive processes such as detection,sensation,attention and consciousness of acoustic signals.However,it is still unclear that how the brain decodes and processes different types of complex sounds(e.g.,conspecific calls and other sounds)and what the dynamic characteristics of brain activities for perceiving different types of acoustic signals are.We recorded the electroencephalogram(EEG)of the music frog(Nidirana daunchina)in both sides of the telencephalon,diencephalon,and mesencephalon under random playbacks of white noise and conspecific advertisement calls.We calculated the absolute power spectrum for each EEG band in order to compare the attributes of brain activities for perceiving different types of sounds.The results showed that sound stimulation increased the activity of each EEG band,and the intensity of brain activity was modulated by the biological significance of sound stimulation,indicating that all EEG bands involve in auditory perception in N.daunchina.
