Abstract:Eigth new species of the genus Blaps Fabricius, 1775 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Blaptini) from China are described in this paper, namely: Blaps garzica, sp. nov., Blaps furcala, sp. nov., B. taiyuanica, sp. nov., B. acutangula, sp. nov., B. choui, sp. nov., B. pilosa, sp. nov., B. brevis, sp. nov. and B. ratalaria, sp. nov.. The type specimens are preserved in the Museum of Hebei University. 1. Blaps garzica, sp. nov. (Fig.1) Length: ♂ 25 mm, width: 10 mm. The new species is closely related to Blaps japonensis Marseul, 1879, but differs from the latter as follows: 1) both sides of pronotum almost parallel to each other rather than arched; 2) elytral basis without strong constriction: 3) transverse wrinkles on the middle part of first sternite coarse rather than fine and vague; 4) the ratio of the length to width of paramera being 1.25∶1 instead of 2.25∶1. Holotyp: ♂, Sichuan (Garze County), 09-Ⅳ-1973, Li Jijun. 2. Blaps furcala, sp. nov. (Fig.2) Length: ♀ 32.5 mm, width: 14.5 mm. The new species is closely related to B. gobiensis (Frivaldsky, 1889), but can be separated from the latter as below: 1) anterior margin of labrum concave deeply, rather than a shallowly concave; 2) mentum inverted trapezoid in shape instead of elliptical-shaped; 3) end of prosternal process sharp rather than straight; 4) elytral mucro horizontal and its end forked, but in the latter curved downward and not forked. Holotype: ♀, Inner Mongolia (Alxa Right Banner), 20-Ⅶ-1988, Ren Guodong. 3. Blaps taiyuanica, sp. nov. (Fig.3) Length: ♂ 23 mm~25 mm, ♀ 23 mm; width: ♂ 8 mm~9 mm, ♀ 10.5 mm. The new species is similar to Blaps rugosa Gebler, 1825, but can be distinguished from the latter by following characters: 1) body larger, longer than 22 mm; 2) elytral mucro slightly forked, 2 mm long in male and 1.5 mm long in female; but in the latter only 1 mm long in male, and indistinct or even absent in female; 3) the ratio of length to width of paramera being 1.48∶1 rather than 1.36∶1. Holotype: ♂, Shanxi (Taiyuan), 04-Ⅵ-1978, Han Fengying; Paratypes: 1♂, 1♀, same collecting date as holotype. 4. Blaps acutangula, sp. nov. (Fig.4) Length: ♀ 16.0 mm~16.5 mm, width: 9 mm~10 mm. The new species resembles Blaps rugosa Gebler, 1825, but differs from the latter in: 1) the 8th~10th joints of antenna round in shape instead of transverselly elliptic; 2) sides of head with a deep depression instead of being nearly straight; 3) head and pronotum covered with densely thick punctures, but noly small ones found in the latter species; 4) angles of pronotum sharped rather than obtusely round; 5) pronotal base with a transverse groove; 6) elytra with sparsely wrinkles forming ridges, but the latter species with dense wrinkes and lack of ridges. Holotype: ♀, Shaanxi (Qiaoshan: Yu Hua Shan), 26-Ⅷ-1956, collector unknown; Paratypes: 2♀♀, same collecting date as holotype; 1♀, Ningxia (Longde County), 27-Ⅶ-1976, Li Jijun. 5. Blaps pilosa, sp. nov. (Fig.5) Length: ♂ 15 mm, ♀ 14 mm~16 mm; width: ♂ 6 mm, ♀ 6.5 mm~7.5 mm. The new species resembles Blaps emoda Allard, 1880, but can be distinguished from the latter in: 1) body covered with yellow pile, but with small granules in the latter species; 2) antenna stout and short, reaching the middle part of pronotum, the 4th~7th joints nearly square in shape, but in the latter its end reaching the pronotal base, the 4th~7th joints longer than wide respectively; 3) the ratio of length to width of paramera being 1.8∶1 instead of 1.4∶1. Holotype: ♂, Xizang (Lhasa), 25-Ⅴ-1973, Li Jijun; Paratypes: 1♀, 3♀♀, collected dates as holotype. 6. Blaps choui, sp. nov. (Fig.6) Length: ♀ 11 mm, width: 7 mm. The new species is closely related to Blaps umbilicata Seidlitz, 1893, but can be distinguished by following points: 1) anterior margin of clypeus concave rather than straight; 2) pronotal sides contracted gradually towards posterior end rather than a arched constriction; 3) lateral margins of pronotum flattened rather than normal; 4) pronotum with small punctures, but in the latter with thick punctures navel-shaped. Holotype: ♀ (Preserved in the Entomological Museum of the Northwest Sci-TechUniversity of Agriculture and Forestry), Shaanxi (Taibai Mountain), 20-Ⅴ-1983, collector unknown. 7. Blaps brevis, sp. nov. (Fig.7) Length: ♂ 13 mm~14 mm, ♀ 14.0 mm~15.5 mm; width: ♂ 5.5 mm~6.0 mm, ♀ 7.0 mm~7.5 mm. The new species is closely related to Blaps umbilicata Seidlitz, but can be separated from the latter as below: 1) pronotum remarkedly longer than wide, surface with small punctures, but in the latter pronotum nearly as long as wide, punctures thick and large, navel-shaped; 2) prosternal process contacted with mesosternum, but in the latter species separated from each other; 3) 1st joint of metatarsus with distinct pulvinis, but indistinct in the latter species; 4) spurs on metatibia flat instead of pointed. Holotype: ♂, Xizang (Rutog County), 12-Ⅶ-1974, Li Jijun; Paratypes: 7♂♂, 10♀♀, same collecting data as holotype. 8. Blaps ratalaria, sp. nov. (Fig.8) Length: ♂ 17 mm~18 mm, ♀ 17 mm~19 mm; width: ♂ 7.0 mm~7.5 mm, ♀ 8 mm~9 mm. This new species is similar to Blaps emoda Allard, but can be separated from the latter as follows: 1) body bright rather than body dark; 2) anterior angle of pronotum round instead of pointed; 3) elytra smooth rather than grained; 4) the ratio of length to width of paramera being 1.35∶1 instead of 1.4∶1. Holotype: ♂, Xizang (Jomda County: Tongpu), 28-Ⅷ-1973, Li Jijun; Paratypes: 2♀♀, Qinghai (Zadoi County), 20-Ⅶ-1963, Prof. Yin Xiangchu; 3♂♂, 4♀♀, the same collecting data as holotype.
