Abstract: | A modified model, developed by Sedcole (1982),simulates quantitative traits by genes with biochemically definable action. This model, however, could not analyze the interactions between loci and intralocus interactions. An altemative nonlinear genetic model based on the multivariable quadratic polynomial regression for fitting relationship between the phenotype values and allele number is advanced in this paper. With this approach, both effects of various loci and interactions between loci controlling the quantitative traits can be analyzed simultaneously. The sizes of different effects and interactions could be compared by the values of corresponding coefficients. This alternative genetic model is widely applicable because it is simple to understand and easy to program using standard software.Except for having a much better fit to the data published by Seyffert and Forkmann (1976) for the anthocyanin content of flowers of Matthiola incana, this alternative model has implications interpreting heterosis and optimum genotypes. |
