Phenylpropanoids from Crataegus pinnatifida and their chemotaxonomic importance

Abstract:Phenylpropanoids are widely distributed within the Rosaceae family. In this study, 14 phenylpropanoids, including a new phenol, 7,8-erythro-7-methoxysyringylglycerol (7), and a new sesquilignan, pinnatifidanin A I (14), were isolated and identified from the seeds of Crataegus pinnatifida. The biosynthetic relationships among the compounds 114 are proposed. The presence of these congenetic phenylpropanoids and their biosynthetic relationships may be used for identification of species of Crataegus.
