| Abstract: | Pantodonta is a big mammalian group. The first fossil to be discovered, appa-rently a specimen of Coryphodon, was found more than a hundred and eighty yearsago in France. Since then over ten families of the order have been established: Co-ryphodontidae, Pantolambdidae, Pantolambdodontidae, Titanoideidae, Barylambdidae,Archaeolambdidae, Bemalambdidae, Pastoralodontidae, Harpyodidae, Plethorodontidaeand Alcidedorbignyidae- The relationships among these families have beell studiedby many paleontologists (Simons, 1960; Kielan-Jaworowska, 1968; Huang, 1977,1978;Chow and Wang, 1979; Dashzeveg, 1980; Lucas, 1982;. Gingerich and Childress,1983). Based upon the previous study and the observation on the materials at hand,brief review about original Pantolambdodontidae, Archaeolambdidae and Pastoralo-dontidae is made and a new classification is proposed fbr these Asian endemic panto-donts. |
