| Abstract: | The property of the virus in the liver of dogs infected with infectious canine hepatitis virus was studied. It was found that the inability of ICHV antigen in dog liver to agglutinate human red cells is not due to the incompleteness or low content of ICHV in the liver, but because the liver contained heat-sensitive hemagglutination inhibition substance and monovalent HA antigen competing for receptors on the RBC with intact ICHV. This monovalent non-virus associated HA antigen can be polymerized to polyvalent HA antigen by heat-treatment or by adding the immune serum of CAV-2 which has the same subgroup antigen as CAV-1. |
