Abstract: | Incubation of [26,27-3H2]-25-hydroxyvitamin D3 with kidney homogenates from rats fed a high (3%) calcium vitamin D-supplemented diet results in the production of a more polar metabolite which cochromatographs with 1,24,25-trihydroxyvitamin D3. On the other hand, incubation with kidney homogenates from vitamin D-deficient or calcium-deficient rats did not produce the polar metabolite. Mitochondria but not microsomes carry out the reaction and evidence has been produced to demonstrate that the 1,24,25-trihydroxyvitamin D3 can be produced in vivo from either 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 as previously reported. |
