Abstract: | The pelagic amphipod, Hyalella montezuma, migrates vertically into the surface waters at twilight in Montezuma Well, Arizona, USA despite the absence of fish predators or thermal stratification. We suggest that a persistent, dense, neustonic algal assemblage may provide a food resource incentive for the twilight ascent. |
