| Abstract: | Itaconic acid was detected in hemolymph, hepatopancreas, gill and muscle tissue of the freshwater crab, Potamonautes warreni. This metabolite has previously only been found in unicellular organisms and fungi. The measured itaconic acid is either being manufactured by the crab itself or present due to infestation by unicellular organisms or fungi. |
