Abstract: | Three different molecular species of collagen and a soluble form of elastin were obtained by digestion of human aortas with pepsin. Two of the three collagens contain cystine, present in interchain disulfide crosslinkages, and appear to represent type IV collagen previously described in basement membranes and type III collagen, recently found in fetal skin. The third collagen species is type I, the molecule found in a wide variety of connective tissues including skin, bone, tendon and ligaments. |
