| Abstract: | We have isolated from a laboratory strain of Rhodopseudomonas capsulata a spontaneous mutant possessing a dissimilatory NO−3 reductase activity. Reduction of NO−3 under dark and anaerobic conditions generated a membrane potential, and was inhibited by rotenone, oxygen and illumination. |
