Abstract: | The milkweed bug, Oncopeltus fasciatus (Dallas), contains 3 pteridines, xanthopterin, isoxanthopterin, and 2-amino-4-hydroxypteridine. The 2-amino-4-hydroxypteridine is found only in the midgut; isoxanthopterin and bound xanthopterin are present in all body tissues and excrement throughout the life cycle. Xanthopterin may be freed by heat or acid or base treatment. Pteridines are present in members of 4 subfamilies of the Scutelleridae. |
