HOST SEARCHING KAIROMONES OF AM ITUS LONGICONIS FOSTER

Amitus longiconis Foster is one of the important parasites of the larvae of spiny white fly Aleurocanthus spiniferus Quain. The host selection of this parasites is mediated through two kairomones, namely host searching kairomone and ovipositional kairomone. The source and functioning as well as the separation, purification, identification and the effect of host sear-ching kairomone were studied. The results showed that the searching kairomone existed in the host honeydew, which functioned as the essential factor in host location, and the major components of the honeydew included six kinds of sugars and twelve kinds of amino acids. The bioassay in laboratory indicated that the kairomone could elicit strong host-seeking activi-ty, and the preliminary experiments in the field demonstrated that this kairomone could lead to increasing the rate of parasitization by 10-12%.
