Dissociation of meiotic and mitotic roles of the fission yeast cdc2 gene

Summary The fission yeastcdc2 gene is pleiotropic, functioning both in the cell division cycle and in meiosis. Here we show thatcdc2 is allelic totws1, a previously isolated meiotic gene. Dissociation of meiotic and mitotic roles of the gene is also demonstrated by finding mutant alleles specifically altered in only one of the two processes.
