Abstract:Discovered in 1971 by Henry and Marie-Antoinette de Lumley, Arago 21 is the oldest complete human face from Europe. Three-dimensional virtual imaging methods were used to isolate the fossil fragments before articulating them according to their anatomical constraints. This new reconstruction of Arago 21, the first virtual one, was then compared by Procrustes superimposition to Pleistocene European, Asian and African fossils. These results, limited to the frontal bone, highlight the proximity between Arago 21 and fossils like Sima de los Huesos 5. However, anatomical and metric differences remain.
