| Abstract: | We studied the effect of VIP on the ATPase activities from basolateral membranes prepared from rat enterocytes. Under the standard conditions of assay for membrane ATPases (millimolar ATP concentration) VIP has no effect, neither on the Na, K ATPase activity (ouabain sensitive) nor on the Mg ATPase activity (ouabain insensitive). These results suggest that short-term effects of VIP on ionic permeability and metabolism of enterocytes, are not mediated through modifications of the Na/K ratio by the Na, K ATPase or through modifications of another membrane ATPase activities. |
