| Abstract: | otavitus G9 was identified from a stool specimen collected from a 9months old child with diarrhea in Beijing in the autumn of 1991. Rotavirus dsRNA derived from the stool was not hybridized with either one of the VP7 genes from G1,G2,G3 or G4 which are thecommon serotypes of rotaviruses that cause severe diarrhea in infants and young childrenworldwide It was demonstrated by nested polymerase chain reaction that the virus in the stool belongs to serotype G9. The result from dot blot hybridization using 32P labeled VP7cDNA gene as probe confirmed that the VP7 of the rotavirus from this stool specimen is typeG9. This is the first report of G9 type rotavirus infection in this country |
