Abstract: | —A simplified method for the isolation of an encephalitogenic basic protein from myelin is described. The basic polypeptide is easily extracted from the interfacial protein which separates when chloroform-methanol extracts of myelin are treated with a synthetic upper phase containing citrate. Evidence is presented for the purity and identity of the protein. The disc polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic pattern of this protein was consistent with a high degree of homogeneity. |
