The respiration of suspensions of heart sarcosomes was investigated using a polarographic technique for measuring rapidly changes in oxygen concentrations. Conditions were defined for studying the kinetics of oxygen utilization during substrate oxidation, oxidative phosphorylation, and when oxidation was uncoupled from phosphorylation. The role of adenosine triphosphatase activity in the regulation of these processes was reported and discussed. |
