Thermolability of the stringent factor in rel mutants of Escherichia coli

Abstract:The stringent factor extracted from several independently isolated rel- mutants is more thermolabile than the stringent factor extracted from the parental rel+ strain. This thermolability is characteristically different in each of the mutants. This strongly suggests that the stringent factor is the product of the rel gene.
