Abstract: | The ability of washed mycobacteria, harvested from Lowestein-Jensen medium, to break down amino acids and related compounds was investigated. One hundred and thirty mycobacteria representing 17 species were tested against 21 compounds. Three compounds were broken down by all strains, seven were not attacked by any strain and in the remainder there was variable degradation both between and within species. |
