Abstract: | Stimulated neutrophils generate superoxide and hydroxyl radicals. A membrane-bound NADPH oxidase, inactive in the resting state, is responsible for superoxide production. The production of hydroxyl radicals is through a secondary reaction. A Fenton-catalysed Haber—Weiss reaction is proposed. Transferrin was used as the catalyst in this investigation. |
