Symmetric transcription of simian virus 40 DNA at the early phase of productive infection.

Late and anti-late virus RNA transcripts have been found in the nuclei of permissive CV 1 cells 8 hours after infection with simian virus 40. The amount of these transcripts was 20–50 times less than that of early RNA. No transcripts from the late region of SV40 genome were found in the cytoplasmic polyribosomes isolated 10 hours after infection. Post-transcriptional control seems also to be involved in regulation of SV40 genes expression in productive infection.
