Abstract: | Ochromonas danica cell homogenate can be fractionated by differential centrifugation into chloroplast, mitochondrial, ribosome, lysosomal, plasma membrane and soluble fractions. The plasma membrane fraction was further purified by discontinuous sucrose density gradient centrifugation and was found to be enriched 4–16-fold in the following enzymes: β-galactosidase, acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase, 5′-nucleotidase, and (Na+, K+)-ATPase. The role of plasma membrane phosphatase in the phosphate metabolism of plants is discussed. |
