Abstract:—After placement of lesions in the hippocampus by electrocoagulation, an increase in bound acetylcholine above control levels was shown. There was no concomitant rise in free acetylcholine. The rise in bound acetylcholine was not due to changes in levels of either acetylcholinesterase or choline acetyltransferase and it is suggested that the interruption of septal impulses and/or alterations in uptake or availability of substrates is responsible.
