Abstract:Hydrogen as a clean and renewable energy resources will be further developed and utilized in 21 st century. Biotechnology of hydrogen production is an environmental friendly green technique. It would not cause global climate change or greenhouse, and have minimal environment impact. It has recently received renewed attention in both political and technical circles for its environment and economic benefits. This paper reviews the present status of biohydrogen, including hydrogen producing microoganisms and their mechanisms of hydrogen production. The possibility and problems of different approaches for hydrogen production are also analyzed and discussed. Recent progresses and prospects in the field are examined.
