Abstract: | Dissolved and particulate metal concentrationsassessed in the Scheldt estuary in the period1978–1995, yield a clear indication
that the levels ofall metals decreased significantly. A comparison withother estuaries classifies the Scheldt as beingmoderately
polluted for all metals in the dissolvedphase, but as being fairly high polluted in theparticulate phase, especially for Cd.
However, eventhe dissolved metal concentration fractions in theScheldt are still between 10 and 50 times enrichedcompared
to total metal concentrations in unpollutedseas and oceans.
This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date. |
