Abstract: | Endosperm and cotyledons of Sechium edule at different stages of seed development were found to contain three novel GA conjugates. 3-propyl- or 3-acetyl- GA4/7 were characterized by mass spectral analysis and were found to be biologically active in contrast to synthetic GA4/7 propyl esters. An unusual GA glucoside showing biological activity was also isolated from both tissues and characterized by mass spectrometry and NMR analysis as 16,17-dihydro-16-hydroxy-GA15 alcohol glucoside. The functional significance of this novel GA conjugate is discussed. |
