Abstract: | A two-year study was conducted to compare fertility in cows or heifers bred to either an unselected group of bulls or bulls selected for semen quality. An improvement of 5% in pregnancy rate was found the first year in 591 cows bred to bulls having 80% or more normal sperm, compared to the 656 cows bred to a group of bulls representative of the original population (original group). A similar difference in pregnancy rate was noted the second year between 1179 heifers bred to the original group of bulls and the 522 heifers bred to bulls having 80% or more normal sperm and the 769 heifers bred to bulls with 70% or more normal sperm. |
