Ethene-utilising micro-organisms on compost may be applied in a packed bed to scrub the plant hormone ethene from air. Ethene at the concentrations tested (50–200 vpm) supported growth of micro-organisms present in compost and also of ethene-grown Mycobacterium E3 cells immobilised on compost. |
