Abstract: | Summary An ultraviolet spectrophotometric method was used to monitor the formation of soluble ferric iron in acid culture solutions of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. This methodology was demonstrated to be applicable for determining both pyrite and ferrous ion oxidation. Kinetic parameters of Fe2+ oxidation determined with the use of this method were in close agreement with those previously obtained by measurement of oxygen uptake rates. |
