Abstract: | A number of introns in mitochondrial, chloroplast, nuclear or prokaryotic genes have recently been shown to encode double-strand sequence-specific endonucleases. Such introns are mobile genetic elements that insert themselves at or near the cleaved sites. A uniform nomenclature to designate the molecular elements involved in the phenomenon of intron mobility is proposed. |
