ADAPTATION OF A BLUE-GREEN ALGA TO SODIUM SELENATE AND CHLORAMPHENICOL

The pattern of growth of the unicellular blue-green alga Anacystisnidulans in gradually increasing concentrations of sodium selenateand chloramphenicol during successive subcultures was studied.An increase in tolerance to sodium selenate of about twelvetimes occurred during ten transfers of the alga in increasingconcentrations of the drug. The tolerance was partially lostafter the resistant cells had been given the same number oftransfers in a selenate-free medium. ¹ Present address: Botany Department, The University, Udaipur,Raj., India.
