Abstract: | Sets of simulations of run-away fermentations were structured as two-level factorial experimental designs with parameters in a mathematical model as factors. By this technique it was possible to document the robustness and sensitivity of the model and to show why run-away fermentations may be difficult to control in practice. In an engineering approach to fermentation development it is beneficial to integrate simulation of fermentation experiments with real fermentation experiments in order to get a better planning and interpretation. |
